Some people blame certain types of video games for real life crime.
I have played hunting games, wrestling games, martial arts games etc since I was young (I'm talking like around 8) and I have zero criminal inclination.
People who want to blame video games for real life crime imply that video game violence desensitizes people to real violence. A healthy/stable individual though can SEPARATE fantasy from reality.
Despite my years of playing the games I just mentioned, I am not at all desensitized to real violence. It is something I avoid if I can help it.

There's usually something else at work in a mind that would be affected by playing these games.

I agree with you, people who blame video games can cause real life crime is an ignorant person in my opinion.
