Childhood memories: indoor/outdoor electric grill

When my sister asked me recently if i'd want this, I answered with a quick, "yes"! It's something I've thought about through the years and more so recently after our propane grill gave up the ghost, (died). My mom used it mainly to cook hotdogs and hamburgers for myself and five younger siblings along with my parents. She always had it sitting on her stove when in use and once it was cleaned after supper it fit perfectly in the cupboard above the fridge. I've been wanting a good steak and that's what I'm making right now. A sirloin to be exact. Whether I decide to keep it or not remains to be seen since I'm not able to store it anywhere in my kitchen. It will also depend on how often we use it and how good things taste when cooking with it. We may find that it works fine for the hot dogs and hamburgers but not much else.

@crazyhorseladycx but the lids closed up in those or were they the kind without lids found already set up in some parks? (Edited)

The lid is open on the top, much like a chimney effect. I don't know that it would work for baking. The part I'm not looking forward to is cleaning it. It's still sitting on my counter as I need to clean the part under the heating element and the hood itself although that shouldn't be too bad. I've not had the same day off as my husband since the holiday, so I've not used it again yet.I may decided to cook up the patties that are frozen and then when we're ready to eat them we can reheat them then. But, we'll see.

why are you grilling on foil? That defeats the purpose of grilling

Lol, to make less of a mess. And because I didn't think to clean it until it had already heated up. My steak is still tasty and grilled better than the small George Foreman I used last week.

@MarshaMusselman well anything is better than a George Foreman. But you need to grill it directly on the grates or otherwise you are just steaming it.

@NJChicaa I will be sure to clean them better for next time. If you tend to do what's for dinner posts I'll come find you when I've cooked in it again. I won't promise because I'll be quite surprised if I don't forget especially since I don't know when I'll cook on it again. Maybe instead of putting foil on the grill part I can put foil on the part directly under the coils; that may help it get less messy and still allow the lines to do their job. I just remembered I bought premade patties to use the next time. Now that I'm headed back to work it will depend on when me and the hubs have off together. /Edited.

I love grilled steaks, but I would never put a foil, you lose the taste of grilled meat doing this, better to use a pan.

I've had a few of those during my life time, I liked them until my husband retired and took over the kitchen - he love to cook... so I let him...

He must not have grown up with any if he didn't use the one you had once in a while? I do know that we all have our own preferred ways to cook different things.

Grilled foods taste great; but some people say we should avoid using foils because it emits a toxic substance when heated. A steak is so good; it can last me a day without eating anything, but lots of water!

The one I had this day was good, finally. Searing instead of grilling might be a good replacement, but doesn't give the better flavor like grilling will.
