The quality of life. Body knows.

These last years it seems that all sorts of food are bad for one or another part of our body. And we finally ask ourselves if it is better to die of hunger. My mother was a diabetic (among other things) for several years. After my father died, we went many times shopping or to her doctor and had a lunch out. At those times, my mother would ask me with a yearning voice if she could eat ice cream for dessert. I never said no. I believe in the quality of life. And nobody s sure about the quantity of life we will have. So she asked for the smallest ice cream, ate one spoonful and could not stand the sweetness anymore. She left the dessert, but she had been happy. I don´t care much how healthy is th food I eat. But it seems that my body knows. Just like my mother could not eat more than a spoonfull of ice cream, I are barely drinking a glass or 2 of wine ond only when friends are around now. And my plates are less full now. We can learn little by little to eat less sugar and less salt. Do you listen to your body? How do you do it?

Me too. And when I remember how much I ate when I was young, I cannot believe it!

I can’t stand sweet drinks or foods anymore. Just a hint of sweetness is enough for me.

Me too. I learnt to have no sweets around when my husband had diabetes.

@Tampa_girl7 Diabetics can eat a little bit of sweets with great care. But not much.

I discovered some years ago that coffee and tea are very good with no sugar.

I'm glad you didn't stop your mother having some ice-cream. Even if she was only able to eat a little, at least she felt she'd had some.

I do manage my sugar intake but I would never overdo that. Anytime , I would have black tea/coffe I would have that with no sugar but I would not abstain sugar in my teas with milk. I am not sure if I do it listening to my body rather I have both the healthy and unhealthy food in a balanced proportion. Besides, I am sure in this threatening world while almost every other product is blamed of being unhealthy , it certainly calls for some quality of life like the way you indicated.

There's more to quality of life than eating. Eating is important for obvious reason. Time well spent with family, friends and the environment can have a huge impact on the quality of life even without all sorts of different flavors in food.
