The Clutter Fairy

Clutter grows when you are sleeping. The bad fairy visits your house in the dark of night and plants clutter seeds in the carpet. Specks of dust filter down to give them nourishment. Clutter grows and it breaks free and runs for the cupboards, drawers, and other spaces in your home. Some even pile up in the corner or behind a chair. It eagerly waits to hear those magic words, "What is this? Where did it come from?" You vaguely hear the bad fairy laughing. Does this ever happen to you?

Ever? This is the story of my life. And then the gremlins take the things I DO need. This year the gremlins are specializing in scissors.

Yes, I understand about the gremlins. They take important things like your bank card. They bring it back in their own good time after you quietly go bonkers.

@akalinus Mine use guitar picks as "practice." Then they go after scissors, wood glue, etc.

@TheHorse There is an island in the sky. Most of the lost scissors, pencils, socks and other things end up in piles on this island. There is a magical sky glider that travels to your house and beams these things up and takes them there.

@JudyEv I have donated or trashed tons of stuff. The clutter fairy keeps sowing those seeds.

You have a lot of kids so you are bound to have clutter. It goes with the territory as you well know.

There are lots of youtube videos devoted to clutter, minimalization, and decoration. Once, I and two friends had a clutter anonymous meeting. We kept minutes and everything. It was hilarious.

Thank you. I never had the patience to write a book. I get bored, even with my own writing. I really admire people who can stick with it through the end.

I don't even want to think about the shed. It is crammed full of stuff my husband left behind and probably a bunch of wasp nests. I had to leave the lawnmower outside and it disappeared.

@andriaperry I would not dare to keep Christmas decorations out there. The heat and humidity would destroy them.

Oh, me too. But no matter how much stuff I donate or trash, it seems to grow and multiply and invite all its relatives, friends, and enemies to come to live in my house.
