Last year I counted down albums with "odd" titles. Now the "odd" titles are in the songs themselves. Here's another song that has an unusual, or downright funny, title. As with many of these, the humor in the title does NOT carry over to the lyrics of the song.
#5: The Last Word in Lonesome is Me - Roger Miller
And, as Roger Miller's biographer told me, the last word in Kroger is Roger!
I was at a disadvantage for a long time with the "joke" in the title. We had this album when it came out in 1965, and I wasn't able to read well enough to "get" the joke. I just knew the song, and it was a sad one ("we all have to hurt sometime, this is my first time").
Eventually I saw it: the last word in lonesome is ME.
Funny joke. Sad -- and great -- song.
