So I had my surgery for Shockwave Lithotripsy, and not happy

September 6, 2019 1:46pm CST
I arrived at the hospital early, they kept changing the time I was to be there. Surgery was scheduled for 3, and they delayed it until 4:30, they had several of these surgeries, and one doctor performing them. The surgery room was very small, had a quick look around, before they put me to sleep. Woke up , I was a bit sore, felt pretty good, and left. When I got home, I became ill, I was vomiting all night, non stop, and had a fever. I called the Urology office the next day and they said it was normal, the doctor would call in nausea medication.. End of day came he never called it in, I called the office back they told me the doctor wanted me to go to the ER , this wasn't normal. I went to the closest ER and they gave me nausea medication and morphine for the pain in was in, I had very bad pain, when I arrived at ER. The did a CT scan to take a look at what was going on now.. So they found the problem. I had a 11.4 mm stone the first time, there is now a 9 mm stone, in the ureter, so they only broke down a small percent and missed the 9 mm entirely. They said I will need to have the surgery again.. I really don't know if I can handle this the again, and I am not sure the insurance will approve this again, there should actually be no charge. But I know they don't do anything for free. Not what I was expecting, and now back in same pain i was in before surgery.Yes, that is me before the surgery, worn out.. They wouldn't listen to me about putting the IV in my arm, my veins are deep and visible in the left hand. They kept trying in right hand, and couldn't find the veins .

I didn't mind waiting, I was there already and watching tv. What I am mad about is that they didn't take an xray or scan the day of the surgery like they said they would to get a better view of the stone.. I just don't know if i am up to doing this all over again, but I will need to do something.

@CookieMonster46 I would be so upset. But you need to try and stay calm. Sounds like you have no choice but to do it again.

I hate when people don't listen. I'm sorry they didn't get the whole stone and you're still in a lot of pain. It seems to me, and I could be wrong, but you don't have a choice about getting another surgery. I hope it all works out for you soon.

Oh no, i will need to have surgery for sure, there is no way to get this stone out another way, I can't have it in the Ureter and i won't be able to pass it. I am still so tired and just feel exhausted, I don't see how I will be able to do this again, so soon.

That is sad, if I were you I would be documenting all this. It sounds like medical malpractice to me! Very sorry you have to go through this.

I have it all documented, from what I am seeing, in the consent forms, sometimes the procedure may take two times. I just have a hard time understand that if they knew where the stone was and how big, , and how they didn't get it all.

I'm sorry this happened to you and now you have to go thru another surgery because of the doctor's mistake. I would find a different surgeon to do it if you could. Praying for you & I hope you get better soon.

@Blondie2222 , thank you, I am just getting exhausted from the surgeries, this is a time, when you start feeling older because you have been through too many.

@infatuatedbby I don't know, If i had to guess it was in a place they couldn't see, but if they knew how big the stone was and how much they broke, it wouldn't have looked right, because a big part is still there.

It was part of the 11.4 stone , so only a piece was broken. I was dreading this surgery mixed feelings and then this happens.

That's unsympathetic of the doctors to do it for free....if they made a blunder they should acknowledge and do it now!!!....I am sorry for how you got treated there and still have to bear the pain....I hope your insurance company is empathetic and approves....I wish you a fast good recovery

I'm so sorry that you had to go thru this and the problem still exists. I do not think that I would trust such a doctor a second time. I hope that you have other alternatives.

I was looking at consent forms I had to sign and it says that other surgeries, may be needed, and that there was a possibility they would need to repeat, they have every angle covered. What I need them to do is give me medicine to prevent these stones from starting, I just can't keep going back.

You should immediately contact a medical malpractice attorney, and at least meet with them about your case. And you will also need to contact your insurance company to let them know what is going on. Perhaps the attorney can help with that. You shouldn't have to pay or suffer for a doctor's incompetence.

It's so annoying that medics won't listen when you try to tell them something.
