Survived the first week back at work

We went back on Tuesday for meetings and then school started on Wednesday. It is always a shock to the system when I have to wake up early and function like a normal person by 7 am. My classes are reasonably sized and the students all seem good. . . and that is saying something when you are dealing with 100 teenagers in your room throughout the day. My last period class is already my favorite because they participate, they ask questions, and they joke around. That is a good thing because I have nothing major going on the 2 periods before that and I lose my momentum and get tired. Having eager students will help to bring me "back to life". I have my own room again which is a wonderful thing. I could barely manage last year when I had to run to a different place every period. I'm still trying to make it "mine" and my supervisor wants me to clear it out of a lot of stuff. Apparently there are things there from like 2 teachers ago. I have no problem with throwing stuff out and relocating chemicals to the chemistry department. Anyway it was a shock to the system to get back to work as I said but it is also a welcome distraction from what is currently going on in my life. At least it gets me out of the house and interacting with people (and often laughing) for 6-7 hours each day. Bring on the school year!

Glad you're off to a good start with the new school year. How far into the year will you make it before you start singing a different tune? LOL

The first month of school is always a bit of a shake up while everyone finds their grove. I can't believe that summer is over but I am glad to be back to a solid routine again. We are early risers so the time didn't bother me as much but the getting out there and getting going is not as fun. I like to get up and slowly get a start on my day. Now we get up on school days and its a rush. I cant even remember how to pack a lunch. We are all still just finding our groove!

I'm glad that you're getting used to the routine. At least there's one group that participates and all.

So are you a homeroom as well? Just wondering how it works there. We always had a homeroom in Nevada, and then rotated through other rooms through the day. My homeroom teacher could also be my English, math, or science teacher. When I moved to Colorado, there was no such thing. I had to get used to going to my locker after each period, which was very weird at first.

@NJChicaa - I hated when I had a class in my homeroom and someone would try to sit at my desk.

Glad you had a good first week of school & hope this momentum stays and doesn't change. Kids started school here on Thursday and my niece loves kindergarten. This is her first year starting school and she was asleep tonight by 6pm it tired her out lol. School in my hometown started Wednesday and it was emotional day for everyone since we lost 5 students within the last few months. But hope now that it's the weekend you get to enjoy sit back and relax a little. Next week is a whole new story now that it's going to be Monday thru Friday lol.

There is a big chance I have already asked you what you teach at the university. I get the impression it is maybe chemistry. Right? 100 students in a class can be very funny, does anyone of them get tired and have a nap during class? The week is not over yet, we are on Saturday and as a lecturer, you probably take your work to home too, checking students assignments. Right ?

Well I am glad that you have a class that you enjoy. My daughter in law has a good class this year as well, no students trying to assault her, she teaches kindergarten.

I think being a science teacher would be interesting, especially with students that actually want to participate.
