Short story: The choice made by not choosing is usually a badder choice

This guardian angel was a cranky old soul. He had been assigned to stay with young Jack, since the day that he was born, eleven years ago, but now, he wanted to take his leave of this spoilt brat, who never took one bit of notice in him.
Jack had never heard any of his advice, yet alone ever taken it, so Angel Fortunateous left Jack, and he went back to Heaven.
God asked him, "What are you doing here, did Jack die?"
The angel replied, "Well, he is pretty much dead to me. He ignores me, and he never acknowledges that I am even there."
"Go back," God said, "and appear to him in a dream. Tell him who you are, and that it is his job to take you on board as an assistant, otherwise, he will take on the Devil's assistant instead."
Jack was most alarmed by this dream, and for a while he lifted his game, but then at school, only two years later, he was caught drugging, and boozing, not to mention the gambling classes, he was running for other students, of which he, the booky, always cleaned up.
The angel left again, and he returned to God again, who this time knew what had happened, as he had kept an interested eye on this pair of seemingly mismatched soul and angel.
God told the angel this time, "Yes, stay away for a few years, and we will see what happens then."
Jack ended up in Prison for petty theft, and grande larceny, when he robbed an old lady of her pension, as she left a bank, near his home.
We must either choose God, or have Satan choose us. There are no other choices.

Yes, if we don't choose God then automatically we fall in the hands of Satan. There is no fence. The fence belongs to Satan.

@innertalks Your thoughts go well with what is stated in James 4:7 (King James Version) 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Nicely put Felix. I agree with your description there.
There is no sitting on the fence with God, for, after all, it is not his fence, it belongs to Satan, as you said.
The Devil makes work for idle hands, or for non-decision-makers, then, as the old saying goes.
If we want to work for God, we must choose God to work for.

@1hopefulman Yes, that's nicely worded in its truth, as the Bible always does so.

Yes, "as above, so below," is an old credo that reflects this truth. (Or "as below, so above, or the inner reflects the outer, and vice versa, even the psychologists acknowledge this projection &/or reflection process takes place.)
The world here is being run by incompetent people too.
Incompetence runs everywhere. That is the point of creation. Only God is perfect. Everything else is just striving for it.
Why would the hierarchy of angels be any different than here?
They do have such a hierarchy, with some angels higher than others on the scale, so some must be more competent than others, even Satan, was such a high angel, before he fell, from grace. Perhaps, anyone under God, then can fall, as they have this freedom factor in them, that allows for this to happen.
So, are angels on a learning curve too?
God is perfect by definition, consciously and unconsciously, and in all ways, but his creation, created perfect from him, is like a car that devalues, as soon as it is created, it loses something from being free, and separate from God, and so it must journey through love to reach that pristine newness in a new way, consciously now, rather than just unconsciously, in their seed of love in their heart, which must now grow into a fruitful plant for God.

Unfortunately, by God granting freedom of choice to his creation, a few will always take advantage of it, thinking that they will/can get away with it, but they never do.
Karma has a long arm, probably longer than the arm of the Law.....

@innertalks Yes Steve, karma is the divine law.
Our creator knows we are not up to creating anything that equals it; we can run from karma but cannot hide! siva

@Shiva49 With God's granting of freedom to his creation, there always had to be such a law, showing us that there are consequences to every action.
