Why are there less cricket maniacs in the US?

Cricket is hailed as a religion by the Indians. In the UK, Australia, New Zealand, cricket is widely followed by the people at large. But, the country of America has not been able to forge a cordial relationship with the gentleman's game? If you know the reason or reasons behind it, express yourself.
