A couple of days ago we caught sight of the Pacific Ocean.
We had arrived in Astoria, Oregon, and it was early enough to do some exploring.
The Astoria Column! That sounded interesting.
I had spotted a sign on the Main Street, down by the waterfront. That's a good place to start.
The van climbed the steep streets until we had a sudden turn into a paved lane way, that wound all the way around the hilltop.
Suddenly this tower we directly in front of us. The oranate painting and writing was interesting enough....but we could climb up it!
Up we went! 165 steps, to the top!
The wind was pretty intense, but the view was spectacular.
Sebastian saw the Pacific and a birds eye view of the Columbia River.
The Bridge is four miles long!
Today we will continue our travel along the Oregon Coast.

Sebastian is having lots of fun. He seems to like the more daring adventures, yesterday he rode the Ferris wheel in Branson, MO.

Curious me: do you have to drive through the horrible Portland traffic to get to Astoria?? I have spent some super sweet days on the Oregon coast but never been to Astoria. What a photo!

@Morleyhunt Yes and more yes. In a few years my husband and I will live just south of Olympia, WA. I go through Tacoma traffic when I have to but know that I am not up to Seattle traffic. That I-5 corridor is murder.

I wish the bear was to the left a bit so we could have seen more of the bridge. So neat how far the bridge spans across the water. What a pretty view. Must have been tired after all those steps!

We have lots of photos but most of them are on the camera and I can't share them until we get home and I have access to my computer.

@Morleyhunt Got it! I always go South at Portland, so I've never seen that before.

That is one very long bridge - and 165 steps isn't to be sneezed at either.
