From a news flash sent to a small group of friends by a Very Conservative former softball teammate: "A legal ban on eating dogs and cats in the UK has been blocked over fears it might offend people from South-East Asian countries."
Real news? Fake news? I honestly can't tell.
"Around 30 million dogs are slaughtered and eaten in China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia every single year. Many are skinned alive and suffer horrendous torture."
Real news? Fake news? I honestly can't tell.
Do you think the story is real? If you live in one of the countries mentioned, do you know people who eat doggies and kitties?

I have to check, it seems that they are going to make illegal to eat the meat of dogs and cats as already many countries did. I am still waiting to see a ban to torture ducks and geese to make "foie gras", or to make duvets. They are also plucked alive to make duvets, but nobody talks about this.

The first one, about a proposed ban on possessing dog meat being blocked by the Ministry of Justice in the UK is true, as far as I can tell. The Sun and the Daily Star (both very right-wing with a mainly working-class readership) both ran the story. Here's the link (Beware sensational language with a reading age of about third grade!):

@nanette64 If you can feed a dog, can't you feed a cow or a goat?

I know some friends from Baguio City in this country who eat dogs on a regular basis. In fact one of those friends brought a meal one time and told me it was beef. I was about to dig in when another friend told him to stop me coz I might get angry. It was dog meat and not beef. I'm not sure about the figure though but I know that this country has banned eating dogs and cats. I don't know people who are eating cats though. And by the way, I'm not from Baguio City.

Over here we also have a law that prohibits selling dog meat. But there is a province, take note that a province is a big area, that considers dog meat a delicacy. It is part of their culture to cook the dish of dog meat for occasions. So how can you ban it there?

I am not an advocate of eating cats and dogs and I am not an advocate for torturing anyone. I do find it fascinating, this business of what is okay to eat and what isn't. Some folks eat guinea pigs. I have had a sweet guinea pig pet. Some folks eat cows. I have had a sweet cow pet. I have also had a very nice turkey hen at my back door politely asking for a snack. I believe that fish feel pain and know when its time to die. So eat what? Good question.

I understand all the hype but for people in some countries, they'd be wondering what the fuss is about. It's just depends on what people are used to. Different cultures, different customs. I wouldn't go along with skinning them alive or whatever but I do wonder if that's really true.

Eating dogs, yes is true. The torture, well not when I lived in Asia.
