"Its rude to talk about money!" That is what I hear many say, I am in agreement.
The older I get the more I agree because if you got it,money, you shouldn`t flaunt it, if you don`t have it, money, your shouldn`t beg for it.
But.... That is all I hear about these days.
Some people ask " how did they get all that money?" The answer would be they earned it by working hour after hour, day after day, saving and not spending. Or they inherited it from someone who earned it by working hard and that person was so good to the one with money that it made an impression and they wanted to leave them with something once they had died.
Rich don`t worry about paying bills, just paying taxes, because the tax man collects no matter what.
Poor people have absolutely nothing, no income, no home.
Most people are in the middle, not rich and not poor.
Some think they are poor because they don`t have enough money but if its spent right they would have enough, if you have an income you are not poor.
I am sure my father taught me right, he showed me how to deal with the money I earned when I was about 13 years old and began to babysit for my "wants."
First and always first is pay your rent or house payment, without a roof over your head nothing else matters.
Second - Power bill and most of the time homes are total electric so there is heat and hot water.
Third - Water bill, no explanation needed, we have to have water to drink.
Forth - Medication (Note: in the USA if you are unable to work you can get SSI and it comes with Medicaid, Medicaid of free health insurance and it pays for 5 medications a month with no more than $4 out of pocket)
Fifth - Car insurance and payment, why so low on the list? Many carpool or use the bus or train systems. ( For your information I have never owned a new car, I have always bought used)
Sixth and last - food and that is food from the grocery store to prepare at home. (Note: Low income people in the USA can apply for a food stamps, that is tax free food, free food)
That is the list of how to spend your money wisely.
Now I know what is on your zombie mind.... that cell phone and internet bill. The dish, netflix, cable.... whatever you pay for to watch on t.v. All of those are luxuries! Meaning you cannot afford them after you paid the priorities, you can live without them. (NOTE: In the USA the last President gave everyone that is low income a free cell phone with 250 minutes per month, each month and every month. YES FREE, even if they run out of minutes you can still call 9-1-1 for help, free)
So you can pay your bills and your luxuries, how about those addictions? Smoking cigarettes, marijuana, vaping, e cigs, etc. Beer or whiskey. Hobbies, crafts, movies, etc. Yep, these fall last on the spending.
I know many people don`t want to hear/read that they spend their money foolishly but many people don`t want to hear people begging for money when they have an income, and access to free medical care and free food, and a free cell phone.
You are welcome for the information. Write out paying the bills as I listed and you will see you just might can pay for your own rent, power and water, the real needs of life.

I agree with you. I worked from the age of 14 and paid for what I wanted. Now we are retired and are living comfortably. Not high on the hog...but comfortably.

You have elaborated things and priorities correctly. But the demon of outstanding credit bills and debts at times tries to derail even the essentials and then there is where things go haywire.
And then we start eating out more, some people smoke or drink more to control "Stress" or "depression".
And yours truly is at times guilty of having more cookies or Milk tea when not in good mood or under stress.

Having credit cards ruins people. I am 54 years old and I have NEVER had one. I spend within my means, meaning I earn it, save it and then spend it.
Many are depressed because they can`t BUY stuff.
Some are not depressed in the sense of medical attention but because they can`t have it all and not work for it.

You are right on here. It's crazy that in today's world that computers and cells are considered necessities on a par with food and housing. In the "dark ages," TV was no no problem when all you needed was a plug in and antenna.

for many sharing status on WhatsApp and for some on Facebook is a "necessity" or do I say "addiction" !!
For me, Mylot is a kind of addiction, but the positivity here gets me out of bad mood and stress at times, so I think this kind of an addiction is good.

I cannot help but feel rich, because my husband and I are rich compared to 90% of the world. We have everything we need and a lot of the things we want.
We've raised children, all of whom are doing well with their own jobs and families, and a granddaughter who is the light of my life. Many people have lots more money than we do, but also a lot more misery to go with it.
That said, there's no need to air your financial business in public. Desperate people probably feel they have no choice, and sometimes they really don't, but I can't say they're being rude. They just don't know where else to turn.

I'm definitely a fan of shopping around for the best deals and of using coupons when it is valuable to do so. There are so many good ways to stretch the resources we have.

Living in the USA much is given to people with no to low income, I also think classes should be given to teach people how to manage money. If many didn`t pay the $200 cell phone bill they would have more to pay rent or power, etc.
I came from nothing, I know it can be done.

I don't waste money I value it very much. My boyfriend pays the bills but he also spends the rest of his money as soon as he earns it. He doesn't have much savings. He calls me uncomfortably cheap. I call it frugal and being better about money then he is.
I rarely drink and when I do it's because he has brought it to my house. I almost never eat out I pack food or eat when I get home. I do buy my kids food while we are out but find really good deals on apps. I don't smoke. I don't buy myself anything I don't need. I do go geocaching and hiking often in the summer so the gas to get there is a splurge I feel guilty about but it's mostly only a few months in the summer and I have to do something fun now and then or I feel I'd go bonkers. I try to combine it with things like when In out getting groceries going and geocaching while I'm in that area.

Don`t feel guilty about the gas money, most people use the gas and spend money going out to do something.

I keep a close eye on my money but I know that I have got to keep working hard and diligently at the PC the one thing that is great right now is that the utilities are included in the rent and my friends have me on their wireless with the connections downstairs.

I learned how to prioritize money at an early age. Nothing was handed to me when growing up and my parents made sure I learned the value of a dollar. I passed this on to my children and hopefully they will pass it on to their children

I do agree with you. I don't think it's really anyone's business about my financial situation, like how much we make, and such. We do have our priorities. Certain things that we know we need to pay.
If someone wants to share how much they make, and such, that's their business. But I'm not going to ask them and I'm definitely not going to share it.

And I would be so embarrassed to let everyone know I am begging for money, instead of giving up luxuries and addictions to pay my bills.

I feel sorry for Americans. I do. Andrea in India, we live in sort of congested way to reduce rents. That way even if we earn less, we do not feel too highly constrained. For better part of my childhood and even now, I slept on floor. As children we were kind of 6 of us sleeping in a room that may have been about 12 feet by 15 feet or so. All on mattresses on floor. It saves power bills as well since same fan works for all of us.

@andriaperry Oh...no...we quite like it...LOL. I like it...I feel really refreshed with that sleep. It is a habit I find it hard to be rid of. Only in winters the "bed" gets used. Otherwise, floor feels heavenly.
