"After Hours" is a black comedy which was released in 1985. It was written by Joseph Minion and directed by Martin Scorsese. CAST Griffin Dunne - Paul Hackett Rosanna Arquette - Marcy Franklin Teri Garr - Julie John Heard - Tom Schorr Catherine O'Hara - Gail Linda Fiorentino - Kiki Bridges Verna Bloom - June Tommy Chong - Pepe Cheech Marin - Neil The movie is set in New York City...after hours. Paul Hackett is a lonely and bored computer word processing consultant. Paul leaves for the day and goes to his Upper East Side apartment on E. 91st Street. He watches television and reads Arthur Miller books. Later he goes out and meets Marcy in a coffee shop near his apartment. Paul asks for her phone number. Back at his apartment he calls Marcy; and she invites him to come down to SoHo where she is staying with an artist friend, Kiki. It is 11:32 pm. Paul gets into a cab. Along the way he loses his only money, a $20 bill, out the window. He ends up having to stiff the driver. Paul goes to the loft and finds Kiki working on a paper-mache' sculpture. Marcy comes in and they go to a diner. When Paul goes to pay the bill...with what?...the diner waiter says, "Different rules apply when it gets this late, you know, what I mean? It's like...after hours". It's 1:40 am; and they return to the loft. Shortly after Paul leaves. He walks to the subway station. He has $.97 in change. The subway token fare went up to $1.50 at midnight. The time is 2:15 am. Paul runs to the nearest bar and asks the bartender if he can borrow $1.50 to get home. The bartender can't open the cash register. He tells Paul to go to his apartment, pick up the cash register key and make sure the alarm is on as there have been a rash of burglaries in the area. Paul leaves his keys as a sign of good faith. On the way out from getting the key, he gets hassled by two residents who must think he's a burglar. If you want to find out what happens next on this madcap night, you'll have to watch the movie. It's been one thing after another for Paul; and the night isn't over. This film is a little odd, but funny. I definitely recommend this movie. This movie is rated R. Thank you for stopping by; and I hope you enjoy "After Hours". Photo Credit: Pixabay
