Makino Masters swimming is a small group of adult swimmers from a small New Zealand town called Feilding in the Manawatu region. We may be a club not widely known by some in the wider swimming world, but this past weekend we definitely made our mark in Masters Swimming here in NZ.
The North Island Masters champs held in another small town further north, Whakatane, attracted swimmers from all over the country. Makino sent a team of six swimmers, ranging in age from 51 to 87. And we came home triumphant, having out swum other teams and carrying the trophy for Top Team.
At the champs swimmers won points for each age group placing in up to six events. Then medals were awarded to the highest point earners in each age group. I was second overall in the women's 70-74 age group. Every swimmer in our team won an age group medal.
You can imagine how proud we felt to hear we'd won the overall points tally and so were awarded the trophy. I think the smiles on our faces tell it all. That was definitely a swimming weekend worth going to.
Next stop, New Zealand Masters swimming champs in November!

@Happy2BeMe competition will be slightly harder, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm motivated to train harder now.

Yes, a bit of training now called for in the eight weeks leading up to the Masters Nationals. You may like to see the pic of the Rotorua 50 metre outdoor pool we visited on our way home. Thermally heated. My husband stated there as assistant pool manager in 1976.
