I was cleaning my kitchen today and thought about three items I have had for years. These are my garbage bin and my two bread storage tins. They are made from stainless steel. I have my kitchen made for me in 2010. That year I bought my bungalow and I passed my practical driving test. My son was born in 2007 and my daughter was born in 2009.

Stainless steel never wears out, my parents pots&pans lasted them for over 60 year! I have a pizza pan my grandma gave me, for my wedding shower. It's 50 years old, at this time

Stainless steel lasts more than 60 years so that is amazing. I like that you still have a pizza pan that your grandma gave you. 50 years old is amazing.

@kobesbuddy Sorry that your grandma passed away in 1991. The pizza pan must give you happy memories of her.

I still have all my stainless steel pots and pans that we bought when we got married in 1971. I have plenty of things that are with us from the day we married. We bought this house in 1999, the kitchen was already installed, I changed nothing in the kitchen.

Wow I was born a year after you got your steel pots and pans. It is interesting nothing has changed in your kitchen since you moved into your house in 1999.

I bought all new everything when we had our kitchen gutted and redone, but glad I saved some pots and pans. I use them in my other house. I have many antiques, too.

Well done for saving a few pots and pans when you had your new kitchen. It is excellent that you have some antiques. I have two antique dolls. I bought them in the 1990's.

I have two items that come to mind. I bought a Zippo lighter in Oct of 1987. I have had that in my pocket everyday since, it's like my security blanket. The thing as been around the world twice literally. I was in the Marine Corps and carried it everyday, It's been to more countries than most of the people I know. The second is a Polish wool blanket I got in 1990. I use it every winter. It is kind of a deep purple and green, it goes with nothing in my house and even at one point my x-wife wanted me to get rid of it cause it doesn't match anything. I ended up getting rid of her before the blanket. LOL

It is so amusing that you got rid of your ex-wife before you got rid of your Polish wool blanket. It is fascinating to read about your Zippo lighter that you got in 1987. It must have been exciting to travel to so many different countries while you were in the Marines. Around the world twice with it is wonderful. Thanks for your excellent response.

@maximax8 Yes, it was very nice to see so much of the world and how others live. One thing I found from all the places I have been is we are all basically the same. Maybe people think how we are all different but if you think about it, at the core were mostly the same. We want to be happy, we want to take care of ourselves and our loved ones.

There is only one item in my place here Maxi that has been kept for years. It is a lovely little plaque for the wall. It was purchased 35 yrs ago by me for my then baby son. I had bought it when we lived in Abingdon in England. It was on the wall in his room then and is now too.

I kept a lot of things for a long time, but then I lost all my earthly possessions. Nothing before 2016 exists in my life with the exception of my car, and a handful of clothes. No baby pics, family recipes, pictures, letters, gifts, clothes, high school and college yearbooks, diplomas, degrees, etc...all gone. So I have no memories to look at anymore.

About 10 years ago I do a 'clean out'--got rid of 'things' from 500 books to 150 records, ashtrays, dinnerware, etc.--anything I haven't used, seen or touched for 2 years or longer!! Heck who needs 4 can openers? LOL I now have only essentials!

Well done for having a clear out around 10 years ago. It must have felt wonderful to get rid of 500 books and lots of records. You only need one can opener hey! It is so excellent that you have only got essentials. Use it or get rid of it seems to be so in your life. Thanks for your excellent response.
