come with me on a visit to a 14th century, english, moated, country manor house.... we went in late August but ... I  have only just got around to sorting the photos and putting them in a slide show... It is called Igtham mote... Igtham is the name of the village, and mote is the old french word, for what we now call, moat... It  was a very nice day... as well as the architecture,  which I loved... it had extensive grounds and gardens, which had two large sections full of my two favourite flowers... Dhaliahs and cosmos... it was lovely... so come stroll with me through the grounds of this lovely place... it did not have any famous owners... just a few high ranking churchmen.. councillors and a sheriff and a judge... and some very tame ducks that came and took the food right out of your hands.... lol... click on the link below ... for a photo tour...

mainly for protection... @sol_cee as a defence against attack and robbery... but then later it became more to do with status and for show and as a decorative aspect.

I love those old historical buildings- such an atmosphere and strong personality.
