I have been watching AKC Agility Championship, and so far two breeds dominate the contests: Papillon and Border Collie. Border Collie is a highy intelligent dog. In fact, for the 2018 Agility-International Invitation, all contestants were Border Collie. This breed is bred for inteigence and obedience and now, I want one.

@LadyDuck is correct @Janet357 . They are natural herders. A good alternative is a Labrador. They are smart, loving and active.

There is one thing about Border Collies, they are NOT house dogs. They need to do something, they are not lazy dogs, they are very sad if you keep they at home doing nothing.

@Janet357 Do not get a Border Collie if you live in a city.

there'd be a reason they do swell'n agility, lol. they're the kind'a pups ya need to keep entertained, lots 'f energy. not a great house pup. they're herders by nature.

I hardly watch any Dog Competitions. I watched a documentary before that many dog trainers with so much strict discipline to their pets are kind of... terrorizing, more often than sometimes. But it's good to know that nowadays, the training of pets are leaning more on positive reinforcement. We have a golden retriever and a Shih Tzu princess type, and them knowing how to pee and poop on their respective places along with simple commands like sit and stay is enough to bask in the presence of their unconditional love regardless of their intelligence level. (so long as you feed them, haha) Do you train your pets? Can I get some tips on how to train them do certain tasks?

@Janet357 It doesn't really just apply to dogs. Trainers also, especially in the olden times, beat out poor animals just to train them which is sad. But as I said, it's great that training nowadays are leaning more towards positive reinforcements like giving snacks when they do a good job in doing something. Works much better, hehe. Yeah, Shih Tzus are really cute furbabies. As for golden retrievers, oh boy, they are quite big and eat a lot! It's great though coz it helps me get in shape.... if you know what I mean. Hahaha!

Unless you have lots and lots of time to devote to your dog, a Border Collie is not a good idea. They really need a job to do unless you can provide lots of company and stimulation. They are happiest herding sheep or cattle which is what they were bred for.

@Janet357 They never stop. The Australian kelpie is the same. It is a cattle and/or sheep dog too and is just full of energy.

That's kinda interesting. Our askal (dog street) is also intelligent... Maybe depends on how we teach them.
