Seniors Have To Work Out!

Seniors SHOULD work out to stay physically and mentally healthy to live long! Seniors like me don’t need to go to the gym to work out. Working out at home is more convenient and no monthly fee. When the weather is favourable especially during summer I play tennis and ride my bike. During winter I work out at home. “ Let’s Do 65s For Long Life” is what I call my work out program. I start with a 5-minute mild stationary jogging. Next is 65 sit ups. 65 push ups. 65 push ups with 25 lb. weight on my back. Rest for 5 minutes. Then start the routine all over again. Rest for 5 minutes. Then the finale: 10-minute stationary jogging. I feel strong and I even build muscles. I don’t smoke cigars/weeds and I don’t drink alcohol. In fact, I don’t even drink pop. I eat fruits, vegetables, seafoods, a bit of boiled rice, and chicken breasts. Do you work out, too?

Keep exercising regularly. You are young and I am sure you will regain your strength to walk again.

When our family doctor told me that my diastolic is above normal, she advised me to eat vegetables, fruits, and fish. And to cut down on pork and beef. She told me that I must exercise regularly. My bp is now normal.

No more biking for me. I do participate in water aerobics twice a week, though.

@antonbunot I have tons of back issues and leg issues so water aerobics is a huge thing for me. I can exercise without causing harm to any part of me. My teacher is 70 and has had three or four back surgeries but she is still working out.

Is having a 25 lb. weight while doing the push up allowed for those 65's and above? Well, maybe for those who has been working out since they were younger would be good in doing that. But for those who have just reached their 60's and start doing that, i am having a second thought. I also do a 15 to 20 minute exercise everyday. I do the twisting for 200 counts and do some tapping in various parts of the body as what a Tai Chi teacher instructs to do for those 50 and above , who has little time for exercise.

I do. I don’t know if others could.. or even work out. Most of us at this age are lazy to work out. The complementing photo above is my left arm.

Walking is good! If you can jog a little bit it is better because it makes our blood circulate faster. During summer I either jog or ride my bike going to the tennis court which is 6 blocks away from home.

I walk, this is something I love do to, I also lift weight to keep my shoulders strong after I damaged my rotator cuff, not 25 lb. because I would damage my shoulder again doing this.

@antonbunot Let's say a very stupid accident, I was moving a bag of soil (60 pounds) to the vegetable garden. While I was climbing the stairs, it slipped from one hand and I firmly lifted it with my right arm, bad movement and the rotator cuff was damaged. I do those silly things time by time.

That's an aggressive workout. I swim as much as possible in the early morning and walk around the complex I live in. I have a gym membership and find it healthy to do so as it keeps me social in my solitary world.

Actually, our 3 grown up sons go to the gym 3 times a week. They are muscular. They kept telling me to work out, too, as I was not in good shape and I easily got tired. I gave a shot.. and I got hooked with it. But I don’t go to the gym; I work out in the basement. I am66 years old.

@antonbunot I am the same age. I need to go to the gym. I need the social aspect and the motivation I don't have at home to keep at it. The monthly fee is worth it. I feel good about myself.

@antonbunot I cannot speak for other Seniors. I do not go to a gym but when it is nice out I can take a walk and I exercise 3 times a day at home and also do exercises from a video I found on the internet to exercise. I also have a bicycle stepper that I can put under my computer and use it.

Walking is good enough for seniors. I am working out not only for good health but also am a bit obsessed of building muscles.

You definitely follow a healthy lifestyle. You just might live to be 100 or more! I use resistance bands for strength building and dumbbells. I also do a lot of walking, play golf and ride a bike. My eating habits could be more like yours though
