I actually beg to DISAGREE regarding this bill because some parents are abusive or take the opportunity in regards this bill such as emotional blackmail, conflict to the spouses of their children, and so on. I could imagine the big repercussion that children will suffer in the end because the old parents will be more powerful and manipulative to their child. What if the children get married? For sure they will require not to leave them and yet the spouse should live with in laws which is the big agony. It is not about being ungrateful to the parents but then it is not really the obligation of the children to give back to their parents. Some will suffer the independence because of this law. There must be consideration if the parents are already weak and bedridden that is the time that children can take care of their parents.

In England parents grow older and it is sad what happened to my mom. I was on a trip to Egypt in April 2017. We came home and found her in a care home! I was very upset since I wished her to stay with me or my sister. This bill seems very silly.

@Metatronik The adult children should not go to jail. When my mom was in the care home I saw some of the old parents had very difficult behavior.

Yes it is silly because it is just common sense that children can make initiative to take care of their parents and if they were abandoned there are home care that can make it. I don't think the children must be in jail because of this matter.

In India children will take care of their parents...it's rare to see children abandoning their parents after growing up

The culture here in the Philippines is like that too. Taking care of parents when in sick and bedridden. But part of it is when the parents are also obliging their children to pay back like they have to contribute money for them.

I have heard of where children do not want to live with their parents and go to court to become independent of their parents. No child should have to live in a bad situation at home. They should be able to live with someone they want to be with or live alone.
