Fun And Games

Well at least that's the plan. This weekend sees the 60th birthday of my sister-in-law. To celebrate the occasion ten of us are heading off to a cottage on Lake Windermere in the Lake District. Well it's actually on the banks of Lake Windermere not literally on the lake. That would be a boat not a cottage!! I seriously doubt I will get much time and/or much of a signal in order to converse with the bunch of reprobates I affectionately refer to as 'you lot here'!! So if you don't hear from me for a few days I haven't gone off on another six month hiatus/strop/bender/flounce/cry for help (delete where applicable). It's far more likely I am under the influence of alcohol and indulging in some old fashioned fun playing cards or board games or going for long walks with the dog. The only concern I have is that being cooped up in a cottage for 4 days with 8 of my wife's nearest and dearest may see any planned murder mystery game turn into the real thing. So if you don't hear from me by Tuesday there's a fair chance I'm on the run, a fugitive from justice, hunted like an animal, seeking food and shelter wherever it can be found, for the crime of murder by grievous insertion of Monopoly playing pieces. And that wasn't pretty last time!!!

Have a good weekend, and avoid to drown yourself in Lake Windermere.

@topffer I'm not sure it has a great record at protecting from excessive water intake to the lungs!

It does get very, very dark at night in that part of the world. Very few artificial lights. And I do habe to walk the dog before going to bed. Best take a torch. And a bodyguard!!

Thanks, we did. The weather stayed dry so we got out for some long walks with nice lunches on country pubs. All made it back alive

You have my sympathy. I am sure my husband would not stay 4 days in a cottage with 8 of my relatives, no he would not even stay there 8 hours. Good luck to you.

@LadyDuck Dogs can be a handy excuse for many things including getting away from people and blaming for unusual smells in polite company!!

I'm sure I'll be fine. The dog will just benefit from extra long walks if they all get on my nerves.

Yeah, I've not been around for about 6 months. I was shocked when I logged in and seen how long it had been. At 40 you're a mere child yourself. Time does seem to pass much quicker the older I get. There is a scientific explanation for this which I read about a while back but such are the ravages of age I've forgotten what the hell it was!! Must look it up again. Happy (slightly belated) birthday to your son. You'll be packing him off to university before you know it.

I was at Lake Windermere for a birthday boat cruise one night in August. The last time I was there was when I was about fourteen and my stepsister and I jumped out of a boat in the middle of the lake and swam back to shore. It was a long time before I discovered how deep it is in places! Have a fabulous, non-murderous, time!

You're lucky you didn't get attacked by the dreadful spindly killer fish that lurk in the depths of Windermere. I hope you hadn't eaten for at least an hour before you jumped in!!!
