We call this plant as "malmallotong". When I posted this on Facebook it got lots of attention.
Its a wildberry that sprouted in a bush area of our ricefield area. It is a kind of tuber basing from the rootcrop I dug when I tried to replanted it.
Yes, the fruits sprouted from the leaf itself. The color of the photo is the real color. The is ripe already. The unripe is color green. The size is just bit larger the coffee bean. They say it is edible but have not eaten it yet. I'm still uncertain if I should try to eat the fruit.
But one thing for sure, it is a good garden plant. So a dig some and put it in the garden. I observed it only bear fruit during 'ber' months.
But the shining red color of the fruit is truly inviting to have.

It looks like a red tomato although very red not orange red .
It looks like it is sour to eat. Maybe you should have a taste of it already.

I wonder if it is edible. Are the birds eating it? It could be edible if they do; but to be sure have it identified by a Botanist or Horticulturist.

The birds cannot find it because its low lying on the ground, and covered by bushes. Its a kind of gabi. They said its edible but have not tasted it.
