This soup is one of my Filipino comfort food. I feel cold here and need some to warm myself. I made this soup last week but I like to have it again. I have made this soup with bacon instead of pork meat. Ah, I have written the recipe on my writing site and posted a video as well on you tube.
I am sorry I was not often here. My hubby is in the hospital since Tuesday evening. Our house doctor came to our house and examined my hubby. She then told us to order an emergency hospital transport right after she came. Hubby had spasm and in great pain in his back and was breathing badly. It was the first time I rode in an emergency car. Since then, he has a lot of medical examinations to undergo. I hope everything will be fine soon.
It is so quiet in the house. Alone at home. Gladfully, I have many things to do and friends who called me besides my son.
Anyway, I hope you are all fine there. My interaction will always come late as I have to visit my hubby in the hospital everyday. Take care of yourself. Health is indeed wealth.

I'm sure you'll agree with me that your monggo soup would taste much better with fresh coconut milk, right? Unfortunately though, if coconut milk abroad would only be in tetra pack or in can.

@thelme55 Oh is that so? Good thing you can get fresh coconut milk. I just hope the coconut tastes just like back home. Bananas here in NZ coming from the Philippines don't taste that good as the bananas we have back home. Probably it's because they have to ship the fruits while still far from being ripe, otherwise it will rot on its way to NZ.

@sunrisefan if I can buy the whole coconut head and have to open and grate it myself, I will do. Sometimes there are fresh coconut pieces sold in a Kermis event in our city.
Yes, the bananas taste different whe we buy it here. We don't have bananas from the Philippines here.

i'm glad you have an on-call doctor.
when we cook monggo, we add all sorts of veggies like malunggay, chili leaves, eggplant, squash. then we cook daing (dried salted fish) to go with it.

@thelme55 it's hard to cook daing, tuyo, tinapa, danggit, pusit, etc overseas because of the smell.

There are lots of malunggay tree in our place so that's what we use instead of the ampalaya leaves which is expensive.

@Alexandoy that is nice to have Malunggay tree in your yard. I only knew a few weeks ago that you can add ampalaya leaves to your Monggo soup. We don't do that where I came from my home town. This afternoon, my friends and I were harvesting ampalaya and ampalaya leaves in the garden of my friend who has a birthday today. I will try these ampalaya leaves this weekend.

I'm sorry about your husband. Did the doctors discover what was the cause of his condition?
