I love to write. That is my actual passion in life but raising two teens on my own, I can’t afford to be a starving artist/aspiring writer. That’s okay, eventually I can concentrate on writing to my heart’s content.
Part of writing of course is being able to self edit your work. You should be able to catch basic errors. That is how I was taught to write. No one is perfect though. I make mistakes naturally, just not often and I’m very good at catching mistakes in books and term papers.
I used to edit a friend’s college term papers. I didn’t write them for her, but I would correct her grammar, spelling, basic paragraph structures, and delete things that didn’t make sense. She ended up graduating and getting a better job thanks to me. English wasn’t her first language and she would constantly write her sentences the way they would be formatted in her language.
My friend has referred me to her friend so that I’d help her with her editing papers. I’ll get paid $10 per page. My friend was lucky and I used to only charge her $5 per page as she was a struggling single mom like me. Here’s to hoping for a successful side gig of editing papers.

I’ve always scored really high in English. A 96 on my high school Regent exam. A 4.0 GPA in college. I had a college reading level since I entered 4th grade. I know my worth. Honestly, I’m lowballing it since I don’t do this professionally. An editor can earn anywhere from $7-$20 per page. I feel $10 is a fair medium.

@acrogodess I'm retired; so we have Social Security. Doing editing would be perfect for me...but I wouldn't know where to start to get a job.

@LindaOHio you can always ask the local college if you can put a flyer on their bulletin board in the student commons.

If it wasn’t because I need a steady income, I’d love to be a freelance editor

Yeah. One client at a time is usually what I handle, but it’s been awhile since I’ve done editing work. Time to dig up some of my writers reference books for college writing.
