The time I wanted to be a Nun....

I remember when I was little, about 6 or 7, I feel in love with the movie Sister Act 2. I loved the first movie too but number 2 was more fun to me.
Because I was so little, and didn't really have any understanding of what religion was, I thought I wanted to be a Nun. That phase lasted about 10 minutes though. I was easily influenced with movies back then so who knows what my next phase was. Most likely wanting to be flying on a magic carpet with Aladdin. ( I really did want to do that ....I was a kid shut up )
Anyway I know that it was because I didn't understand religion and what being a Nun was actually all about. It was the singing and dancing that drew me in. Whoopi Goldberg's character also sucked me in thinking it would be a fun life. Fun and fulfilling for many real Nuns I'm sure! But definitely not the life I'd want.
Have you ever gone through a phase that lasted so quickly? Or thought you wanted to be something without knowing what it's really about?

I cannot believe it, I also wanted to be a nun when I was 6. The first year I went to school, we had nuns as teachers. One was very kind and I thought that being a nun would have been a great idea... Two months later I was no more of that idea.

@TheHorse You were lucky to find two kind nuns, I have experienced their "kindness" during 8 years. I remember when I complained at home, my beloved grandmother used to tell me "who has no kids, often has no compassion, those are unhappy women". Most of the nuns were mean and they had pleasure in making us feel horrible girls.

I never considered becoming a nun (or a priest), but when I was four, I met two nuns on a ship from New York to Italy. They were the kindest ladies I'd ever met, and seemed to really like me. I think my dad (a non-religious Jewish Freethinker) was a tad worried about my relationship with those two ladies. But they never "preached" to me, or anything like that. They were simply kind, and listened to my 4-year-old ramblings. My body can still feel the warmth of their kindness.

@LadyDuck How weird is that?! I've never known anyone wanting to be a nun let alone around the same age as I thought I wanted to be one.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a statue when I grew up.
And just think, if you were a nun, you and I couldn't....well, I'll leave it up to your imagination!

@VivaLaDani13 Haha, actually I did practice a lot when I was a kid! I would try to stand still in various poses for as long as I could. I guess I wasn't very good at it though!

@moffittjc Yeah there's quite a few reasons why I wouldn't want to be a nun.
And a statue! So did you used to practice that when you were a kid?

When I was little, I did not want to be a fireman or policeman." I wanted to be an "astrophysicist." I actually learned about the constellations with my dad and liked math throughout my childhood. But at a certain point I wanted to be either Butch Cassidy or The Sundance Kid.

@TheHorse I love space so this is a cool answer to me. I haven't seen Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid yet but it's something I would love to see. I've heard it mentioned so many times over the years.

I thought about becoming an airline stewardess. Flying all over the world for free sounded like a great idea. It lasted all of a few short months in high school, then it was back to wanting to be a nurse. I got my nurse's aid certificate, but nothing came of it when I went into the navy. I'm doing what I always wanted - writing and being an author. I've been writing since I was 8.

@VivaLaDani13 I worried about flying the first time I did because of my fear of heights, but I love it. I even had the opportunity to take the controls of a small plane and yes, now want to get my pilot's license. It would be so cool to fly an airplane. He was a friend of my husband's and had a small four-seater plane.

@just4him wow cool I never knew that about you. Being an author I knew but interesting to know the rest. Thank you for sharing. My Nan used to suggest for me to be an airline stewardess when I was little simply for the fact of flying all around the world but I hate flying so that wouldn't have been a good choice for me.

It's good you do remember it. When I was a kid I wanted to be a priest upon listening to a priest missionary who campaigning for a student to enrol to their seminary school. I told my parents about and they didn't like it.

@Nakitakona I'm sorry your parents didn't like the idea. Was there a reason they didn't like it?

I never wanted to be a nun. But my uncle had suggested a few years ago for me to live in a convent. I told him no.

I have known about this before reading this discussion. I don't recall ever having gone through such phase. However, I was told that I will become a doctor up until I was out of high school. I never was given a chance or choice to make my own ambition. Don't even ask me the kind of pressure it put on me. I was "conditioned" since early age and then was abandoned at the last minute. The reason why went into a dark phase and can't even recall 3 years of my life after high school. All I know is I stopped interacting with others and isolated myself.

I as grew up with bit-time pressure to "do well in school," though my parents were "cool" about letting me determine my own course. I was a math and physics major early in college, but wound up studying psychology and music theory. Go figure.

@Daljinder I remember you telling me this too. And I've always been grateful that you told me about it. Wasn't right for you to be told what you were going to be / do as a career. I don't like that.

I saw your title so had to read what this is about. I remember Whoopie Goldberg in it. It was funny. Now, it makes more sense. Kids have good imaginations and think they want to be lots of things when they grow up. I cannot remember because I did not have a good childhood so do not remember lots of things.
