Arthur Bach is a drunken New York City millionaire who is an embarrassment to his family and who enjoys being driven through Central Park in his Rolls Royce Silver Wraith limousine. Arthur will inherit a portion of his family's fortune if he marries socialite Susan Johnson, which would lead to a lucrative partnership between his father and Susan's father, Burt Johnson.
One day while in Bergdorf-Goodman in Manhattan, Arthur sees a young woman, Linda Marolla, stealing a tie. Security follows her outside; and Arthur and his servant, Hobson, follow Linda. An argument ensues; and Arthur intercedes and says that the tie is for him. The guard apologizes, Arthur kisses Linda, gets her phone number and tells her that Bitterman, the chauffeur, will take her anywhere she wants to go.
Arthur takes Linda out on a date; and the two instantly have a connection. Arthur's father says that if he refuses to marry Susan Johnson, he will be cut out of the $750 million inheritance.
Arthur confides in Hobson who has been more like a father than his own father; and Hobson tells him he should abide by his family's wishes; but he realizes that Arthur is growing up and that he really loves Linda. He contacts Linda and tells her she should go to Arthur and Susan's engagement party.
If you want to find out what happens, you will have to watch the movie. Moore plays a good Arthur...It's like a caricature of himself which makes it even funnier. Minnelli plays a good Linda...concerned about Arthur and not really caring about the money. There are a lot of laughs in this movie; and it's one definitely worth watching. The title song, "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)", won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Sir John Gielgud won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor; and the movie won two other Academy Award nominations. I give this movie my recommendation.
This movie is rated PG.

I have seen that. I watched it because I liked a song from it but realised I had never actually seen the film. I watched with my partner and youngest son. We thought it very silly.
