Strangest Song Ever

When I first moved to Latvia I was feeling kind of strange because this was my parents’ homeland and they had to escape from it in WW II. The looming giant Russia and later the Soviet Union posed danger to many people and now I was living next door to them. As long as they no longer bothered us I was not worried but Riga, the capital was full of Russians.
My late husband always told me I was lucky. I asked him why and he said that when I walked the crowded street of the city if any angry or drunken Russians happened to be around or behind me, I could just move out of the way but I would not understand a word they said or what curses they used so I would not get upset. I told him that was just fine with me but sometimes it was also rather unpleasant so I enjoyed staying on our side of the river in the suburbs.
Then I heard this song and I had to laugh. Bony M came out with a Euro-disco hit single in 1978 called “Rasputin”. It was all about the notoriously infamous Grigori Rasputin, who was a friend and advisor of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and his family. I must say it is some song and the ending just blows me away – “oh those Russians”. But of course, many Russians were just ordinary people trying to make their way in life and had no say over the powers that ruled them
.
What do you think of the song?

@DianneN my grandfather had to serve in the Russian army and he greatly resembled Czar Nicholas due to this when they plotted the assassination he was on assignment behind the Ural Mountains and they just took him out and shot him. No need for a double running around,

@JohnRoberts Nowadays some people tend to think, that all Russians are cruel, ignorant bears, living in woods
