What is more important environment or plastic

Today I got into an argument with one of my colleagues in the office, that they think that if the plastic will be completely closed, then they will have to use again something which will have to be used again and again, such as if there is a bag of news paper. They do not last long, they will have to use them again and again, and the plastic bags that used to last for years, I told them that you need to save plastic bags more. Is to save the environment

Environment if more important; it is already choking in plastic, even our oceans! It's good there are inventions of plastic-like materials that are biodegradable and some could be eaten like tapioca material.

For me plastic use is good. The bad is the improper disposal.
