Yesterday was picnic day. I ferried 12 tourists out to Paka beach on Pogo's boat after having done a toilet run in the morning. They all gathered on the dock beside Madeleine's Beach Bar as planned, and once the food was loaded up I counted the passengers on. Half an hour later I counted them off at the beach, gave them their instructions and left them to frolic on the beach while I set up lunch. Four hours later it was time to go back for a meal and drinks at Madeleine's where there were tables reserved at the shore so that they could watch the sun go down - a rather spectacular sight as it seems to melt into the sea before throwing up an explosion of wild colour into the sky. But there is always one. One tourist didn't want to leave and thought it a better idea to stay and watch the sun go down at Paka Beach. I told her no. She told me yes as she sat holding the wine bottle that she had emptied by herself. I couldn't leave her there on an isolated beach, drunk, vulnerable and alone. There was no other way for her to get off the beach back to town, and the boat is not licenced to carry passengers at night. She was thoroughly obnoxious but at least the rest of the crowd turned against her and she very reluctantly acquiesced at last and sat sulking at the back of the boat. She didn't stay for the meal she'd paid for at Madeleine's and I hope I never see her or anyone like her again.

Such a situation is very tricky for the poor guy trying to run the show. It's good the other passengers backed you up. And I guess it might happen again from time to time.

That was so selfish of her, why didin't she go by herself if she wanted to not care about the others in the group
