Off and on all night long I have had a character form the little book I am writing poking at my brain. "Let me do it. I want to do it" she keeps whispering in my ear.
"No, you aren't right for the part." I whisper back.
"I am I can do it. Just give me a chance." she pleads.
But I hold fast to my decision and she goes away dejected. Oh, but not for long back she comes a few minutes later begging to be the villain.
Finally at about 5 this morning I got up, turned on my laptop, and gave it a try. I let this heretofore sweet, innocent girl with big eyes and soft voice become the villain in my book.
She is right. She is fabulous at the part. I should have listened to her from the start.
Funny how your characters know better than you how things will work isn't it?
I think maybe I will take a nap later on and maybe she will speak to me once again with a fabulous suggestion.
Have a happy and healthy day everyone.

Nope but I have been thinking of doing so. I write the books for students who are poor readers. It is so important that there are books available for a high school student to be able to read a book geared towards their age but written for maybe a 2nd to 3rd grade level.

@HazySue What a pretty nice concept. Keep it up! How can I apply as a kindle writer? Is it available for Filipinos too?

That's the one thing about writers that many people don't know or understand. That in our heads, our characters are real people. All have a role. Not all get the part. But all of them exist and want to be brought to life on the page. They DO often know better than we do. This is the part when we say, "at some point the book is writing itself."

My problem is that I keep wanting to start a new story, the first scenes of which keep going through my head, but I want to finish the story I'm working on first!

I'm always amazed at how characters form for authors.
