Is this a good news? No? I think it is a good news and bad news. The Vatican is going to hold a synod vote - To allow priests to get married or not.
I believe the reasons why they are contemplating to allow priests to have a wife of their own (and not secretly borrowing other men's wives/daughters) are: First - Many priests are leaving the priesthood to get married. Second - To encourage more young men to join the priesthood.
It is no secret that there are priests who are born attracted to handsome men; will they be allowed to say "I DO" with their handsome boyfriend, too?! Allowing priests to get married may solve one big problem of the Vatican; but I believe they are creating new problems!
What do you think and say about this, my fellow myLoters?

MAY BE... and it is a remote MAY BE. Nothing has been decided yet. I was reading (in Italian) what has been discussed and said and this is the usual way to talk of "politicians", they say "may be" to keep people quiet while do not intend for the moment to change the rules.

I am optimistic that the Vatican will allow priests to get married. Celibacy is,(I studied tn the seminary for. 7 years, my friend) is the reason why young men are not interested to join the priesthood.. and the church are running out of priests. I am thinking the Vatican may opt to let women join the priesthood, if they decide not to change the rules. Roger Federer won the Basel tennis tournament for the 10th time at the age of 38! Amazing!

@antonbunot Have you exactly read what the Pope declared? He said "they could ordinate married men as Priest", those who are already Priest too the chastity vote, this cannot be changed. I was 8 years old the first time I heard the same thing from Papa Pacelli. I have noticed a piece of news about Federer yesterday evening.

Well if they do so then the Catholic Church would need to provide more for the family to thrive since the priest will have to attend to his family first than that of his community. Although that is true what discourages many from joining priesthood is the vow to celibacy. Many are not able to fulfill that since many do go underground going into illicit relationships because they are not allowed to get married. If they want to really pursue their love then they have to leave priesthood.

@antonbunot Celibacy is really not easy to practice at all. I think if they would be allowed today they would have a hard time having a family since the only source of money he gets is from the parish collection. This is supposed to be money for the maintenance of the church and the community. He would have to work for his family to support them. The vow of poverty will be in question too will he allow the family to practice it since they married a priest? Or will the priest have a double life practicing the vow when he is practicing as priest and different one when he is with his family? Tha call for priesthood is for those that really are able to focus mission on serving his parishioners getting a family of his own might distract them from it. But of course it is easy to say look at the Christian pastors that practice their faith and get married and have family.

I studied in the seminary for 7 years. As a child it was my dream to become a priest. I was in third year college when I realized that celibacy was not for me. I decided to leave the seminary. My late pious mother was not happy. I explained to her that I rather leave the seminary early than to become a priest only to leave the priesthood to have a family. I have a loving wife and 4 wonderful children - - and 8 beautiful grandchildren! What if I became a priest?!

This issue is always debatable even if the church is to decide.

If priests are allowed to get married, the church is solving just one problem, but creating more problems. First the church needs more money to support priests and their families. Priests, having two responsibilities, will be a big burden for them.

For me, yes. I think its better for them to have wife and children than vowing to their celibacy but having partner and children. Yes, I know a priest who have choldren. I think they should make some changes in this culture now, anyway its 2019.

O, boy, what if a zealous wife make a scene while her priest-husband is celebrating mass? hahaha! 40 years ago, the Vatican should have allowed priests to get married . . . when I entered the seminary at the age of 12, we were 29 first year students. One by one left ; just one stayedt to finish the course to get ordained . . and yet he eventually left the priesthood to marry his sweetheart.

he he, of course that will not happen just like pastors and minister's wives don't make scene.
Of course, if this allowed, there will be more priests. Oh, they should also lower the tuition and the other fees in seminary.

Ithey should be allowed to marry. Bishops and the pope should marry, too. Why not?
