Squirrel Stash

Although we managed to get plenty of hazelnuts off our tree this year - we got in nice and early - we still left some for the wildlife and this afternoon, Adam spotted a grey squirrel looking out at him from one of the top branches. He'd obviously come to see if he could find a few to stash for the winter months. Not sure if he got many as it's getting a bit late in the year now but good luck to him if he did! But our tree isn't just about the nuts. With Autumn now upon us I noticed late this afternoon how beautiful the leaves looked as the shadows were lengthening and the sun was going down. They'll soon be gone and we'll be left with bare branches for a while but then, just before we get the new leaves in Spring, we should have the lovely catkins.

@olliesmum So what did Adam think when he saw the squirrel peeking out? So glad the leaves are beautiful.

I think his first thought was 'thank goodness I got a load of nuts in before he arrived on the scene'!

It's always enjoyable watching the seasons change through the trees.

I can remember many years ago we had a new neighbour move in. He was one of the most obnoxious men I've ever met. He and his family had moved back to England from Spain and all he did was complain about the wet, the fog, the snow, the cold ... After a while I got a bit pee-ed off with his griping so asked him what seasons he had over there. He replied always hot and sunny and usually dry. Told him that I'd far rather live in a country that had four distinct seasons as it must be boring for one month to be very much the same as the next. He was lost for words for once!!! Thankfully he and his family did a runner as they couldn't afford the rent on their place so didn't have to put up with him for long.

@olliesmum Sounds like it was a good day when he left. Some people are never happy, are they?
