Today, we celebrate All Saints Day in the Philippines. ( I believe it may vary depending on geographic location of that Catholic country celebrating the said feast -as also noted by@justforhim-Thanks! ) On the illustration is one of the patron saints of the Philippines. ( credits to the artist Mr. Lloyd Baltazar )
He is the Philippines' very first Filipino patron saint, Lorenzo Ruiz. Actually, He's a Filipino-Chinese executed in Japan in the 17th century, after being falsely accused of killing a Spaniard. This was despite the fact that he used to be an altar boy way back then, and he has grown-up to be a very fine young man.
Which country are you from? Who is your patron saint? ( if you have any ) Do you know why he/she serves as your country's patron saint?

I wonder how the church could verify the miracles attributed to the blessed so he can be a saint.

Yes, It remains to be a mystery. It has always been like, " To see is to believe. "

Thanks! Yes, that is right. Although there are a lot of religious denominations, I believe Catholicism still has the most of the figures.
