1947 - Designer Howard Hughes pilots the only flight of the Hughes H-4 Hercules (Spruce Goose), the largest fixed-wing aircraft ever built.
1959 - Twenty-One game show contestant, Charles Van Doren, admits to the Congressional committee that he had been given questions and answers in advance of the game show.
1966 - David Schwimmer (below) is born. He is an American actor and director. He is known worldwide for his portrayal of Ross Geller in the sitcom Friends. He has been in a number of movies, television shows and stage plays. In 2016 he starred at lawyer Robert Kardashian in the movie The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
1992 - Hal Roach passes away at the age of 100 (born in 1892). He was an American film and television producer, director and actor active from the 1910s to the 1990s. He produced Laurel and Hardy and Our Gang film comedy series. In 1912 he started acting as an extra in silent films. He came into an inheritance and began producing short film comedies in 1915 with Harold Lloyd.
