He insulted the Queen but lived to tell the tale

Nicolas Ferrial was a lucky many indeed. He was Jester (jokester, funny man) to both King Louis XII and Francis I of France. He is also known as Le FĂ©vrial or Triboulet. Nicolas spanked the behind of Francis I which the King did not take too kindly to. It is said that the King told the jester that he would be forgiven provided he could come up with an apology that was more insulting than the deed. Well, Nicolas Ferrial certainly did come up with a better insult. He chose to insult the man's wife by saying "I'm so sorry Your Majesty, I mistook you for the Queen!" This, of course, was against an order that the King had made on Nicolas, forbidding him from joking about the Queen or her courtiers. Francis I was so fond of the jester that he allowed him to choose his form of death. Nicolas, with quick wit, explained that he would like to die of old age. The King was said to have laughed and banished the Jester from his realm, allowing him to live out his life elsewhere. Source: Wikipedia - Triboulet

@kobesbuddy I agree, but I also think the kids need to know why it's happening. You have to spank and then explain why.

@ScribbledAdNauseum And spanking kids isn't wrong, in some circumstance.

Louis XII is a mercy and kind-hearted monarch,i can't imagine what would happen if Nicolas Ferrial play a joke on Stalin's wife or Mao's wife.and if he said:"I'm sorry,Stalin,i mistook you for the maiden."there is no doubt that he will be executed by Soviet's Cheka, and his families also will be punished and become the Political Pariahs in Communist Regime

I am sure there are several other leaders that would have given a harsher punishment to the jester. If he had done this to Henry VIII for instance, he probably would have had him executed for smacking his bottom alone.

@Janet357 Yes, I have heard that. Sarcasm (a form of humor) is also regarded as being a sign of intelligence.
