It Is Always A Rainy All Saints’ Day

Here in the Philippines, most Filipinos flock to the cemetery to offer prayers , flowers, candles and their presence on All Saints’ Day, Nov. 1 not All Souls’ Day, Nov. 2 . Nov. 1 is the declared legal holiday here too. And as usual , it is rainy on All Saints’ Day. But rain or shine, people still will flock the cemetery to pay their homage to their deads . Those are our pictures last Nov. 1 when we went to the cemetery for my departed father-in-law. On the next day, I went to our hometown , to also pray for my father, whose urn is at a console by the receiving room of my parents’ house. What about you guys, did you also go to the cemetery last Nov. 1?

I always go to my father’s grave whenever I’m on vacation. But it’s been a long time that I haven’t celebrated All Saints. FB was flooded with cemetery pics though. :))

At least, even if you weren't in the Philippines you know how ypur friends celebrated their All Saijts' Day. I am really wondering why instead of All Souls day when they will go to the cemeteries, it is All Saints' Day.

We skipped the Nov 1 and we will go this weekend instead since we went for a holiday last week. Yeah the weather now is really predictable in our province. Seldom do I experience Nov 1 as sunny and pleasant it always rains either on mornings or at night.

Sometimes, we do go to the cemetery on nov 2 because there are lesser people already. It's also diffocult to go to the cemetery because of the difficulty in parking.

There was never an All souls and All saints day where I went to the cemetery that it did not rain, no matter how hot the weather it would suddenly rain. Our dearly beloved used to be interred in South Cemetery in Makati City till the place got too congested so we transferred them to Manila Memorial Park in Sucat, Parañaque( my uncle bought 2 plots and I bought one)

Here though, it was sunny the whole day of Nov. 2. It seems to say Nov. 2 is the day where All Souls should be prayed for and visited where they were buried.

I pity those in the cemetery on Nov 1 because it was either the searing sun or the rain.

Yes. Though, it is also a form of sacrifice for the sake of praying and visiting the dearly departed ones in the cemetery. Hey, it's good to see you here again.

We do not have any such thing here. But something similar to that. We have a month of shraddh in Hinduism that generally falls somewhere in September to November. For one month, we pay homage to our deceased ancestors and forefathers through few rituals.

So you have a longer celebration - month long. Us here it's just for Nov. 1 since it is declared a legal holiday. It is so interesting that you have rituals for your deceased ancestors and forefathers. I guess, you light incenses?

@SIMPLYD We do some daan( offerings) to God and also donation to charity and other welfare work in name of our forefathers. One common ritual is to feed crows with food that your forefathers enjoyed. It is believed that during this month the deceased ones visit us in form of birds mainly crow. So people feed birds and crows.

We should all be like that actually. Pray and vist our dearly departed in the cemeterieseven on ordinary days. Well, as for us, it is made into a Holiday so everyone including those who works, since it is a holiday can visit their dearly departed even for just this day once a year.
