Home Repair Update - Procrastination and Insurance

I remember telling you that my husband's procrastination allowed the roof to leak and bring down the ceiling in two rooms and a wall in another. We also had to have the yard brush hogged twice to knock down all the overgrowth. Well, the insurance company made note of the bad roof and the overgrown yard, made the assumption that the property is vacant and is cancelling our insurance as of December 8. My husband didn't even show me the letter from the insurance company for two days. He said, "What's done is done". Well, that's not true! I immediately got on the phone and started calling insurance companies. It just so happens that there are three companies that will insure a vacant home...at a price. So far the quotes I have are $1,700-1,800 per year. I'm doing everything I can to hold my anger in. We will have to accept one of these quotes to be sure that the house is protected. Don't procrastinate...it can only lead to problems. Photo Credit: Free Images

Oh, that is unfortunate. Do you want to keep that property?

No, we want to sell it as soon as it's repaired.

I wondered how things were going. Oh my goodness about the insurance. So sorry.

What angered me most was that he was ready to take the cancellation without even exploring other insurance possibilities!

Anger is not good for you. Is your house actually vacant? I have not been keeping up with you.

Stay on it, you will get a cheaper quote. Is the house up for sale now? If so let them know. If you have a realtor let them know.

No, there's been nothing else done beside the roof. My husband wants to get over there before they empty out the house. He's had 3 weeks to do that; and next week he has 3 appts.; so I know he won't do it next week.

I'm actually handling it pretty well. Probably because I have decades of experience with this sort of thing since we've been married a long time!
