Some movies never get boring. The Sound of Music is, for me, one of those movies. It was a good day to see it again.
The first time I saw in was in the early seventies and I must have watched it at least a dozen times. It's always a delight to sing the now familiar songs. it's a movie that brings out all the emotions. It makes one laugh and it makes one sad.
Did you know that:
the little girl couldn't swim and so they had to rescue her quickly when they all fall of the canoe?
the mountain where Maria is singing at the beginning of the movie is not in Austria but in Germany?
originally they wanted Doris Day to play Maria?
the real baron Von Trapp was 24 years older than Maria?
that for my honeymoon (second marriage) I went skiing at the Von Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont?
Have you seen it? Do you have fond memories of watching this movie?

There's a scene when the baron comes home with his girlfriend and they are all in the canoe and they are excited that they all stand up and the canoe tips over and they all fall into the lake.

I love that movie, I have seen it many times. They cast Julie Andrews perfectly , I can't imagine Doris Day playing Maria.

I know you don't lie and so I believe it. It's based on a true story though some scenes are made up and it has some cute songs. My kids used to love to watch it.

@LadyDuck Yes, that is in the movie but in the real story they took the train and went to Italy. Eventually they went to the USA and I went to visit their lodge a couple of times.

@1hopefulman The only thing I know about the movie it is that it's a story of a family who cross the border from Austria to Switzerland walking up in the Alps.

Yes I love this movie as well. I think it was one of the best movies about love, family and nationalistic inclination. I loved this movie and I watch this as a kid back then and watched it again when my uncle bought the dvd tape of this one.

@youless I was 15 when it came out and I remember our teacher telling us how much they loved the movie. Those days we had no extra money to go to the movies and had no television.

The first time I saw this movie was on betamax back in the 80s with my whole family. When my father would rent betamax tapes he would always choose movies for the whole family to watch. My father was such a movie lover and a book lover that there's no day that we don't watch ha movie on betamax as a family at all. At least during school breaks and weekends.
I couldn't count the times I have seen this movie. And yes it's then kind of movie that you don't get tired of watching.

I did not know all those interesting facts especially the last one, lol. Always enjoy watching that film. One of Julie Andrews finest roles. Good overcomes evil leaves you with a good feeling inside.
