Windows Updates (and More Updates)

Something is going on with this month MS Windows updates. I just spent some time a few days ago installing all important updates as recommended by windows, only to be alerted again today, of another batch of important updates (this time, I am still reluctant to do anything yet). The update which I had installed, has caused me plenty of problems so far. Among that, was some popups advertising for adult activities, with the alert that more should be available from this site, mylot. Has anyone encountered this same problem so far?

I am still using Windows 7 and I only perform security updates, so I have no problems.

You are very smart there. I read on the internet, of some IT guys who laughed, pleased that his Windows 7 is still good to this date (Microsoft did mention that they would remove any support to Windows 7 by some dates, which might have passed ages ago, am I right?).

@YrNemo No, Windows 7 support is not yet removed, it will end on January 14, 2020. I do not know why people think it has already expired. WHEN it will not be supported anymore, I will only use Linux, farewell Microsoft.

@LadyDuck I should learn how to use Linux. I have a book here but never have the gut to begin.

Can we disable the auto update? You said you haven't done it yet, I heard some said Windows 10 forces users to update when the internet connection is detected.

Lucky you. I am thinking, perhaps the latest windows 10 (that comes with the new laptops) is of a better version? (compared to the one they asked us to change/update and which is full of problems???).

@YrNemo most annoying is that some you want to alert you like swagbucks doesn't alert you in time but ones you don't want popping up just come in groves.

In the advance setting of my browser, I found out that for some reason, the pop-up from mylot was allowed especially. I have turned that one off now in all of my digital gadgets. (I turned that one off first in my laptop, then I found out the problem suddenly occuring in my tablet. So I turned that one off too separately. Let see if that works this time.)

@YrNemo I don't think so - it's just ordinary Windows 10. It's only about 6 months old, but I've not heard of Windows pro.

@jaboUK I read about it just a few days ago and wondering too. My old windows 10 caused me such grief last year, that I in the end, killed it. I have been very happy since. (The latest weird thing from the update, I have fixed it I think.)

@sol_cee It is always cold here. When one gets older, it seems to be cold from the inner self outwards. We all become a kind of Elsa .

Hey, long time no see... (No, it has been my fault this time, I have hardly got the time to get in here. Partly because whenever I tried to do mylot on my phone, within seconds, the site drained all of my phone battery... So I had no choice but to quit if I was out - which was a lot in the past.)

I don't know why they have to have so many updates. They always seem to create problems.

@YrNemo Microsoft and the rest are now making it so that some updates make older computer models crash thus forcing you to buy a newer model.

@JudyEv thought only apple doing that to their victims . What you said there, made sense. A guy complained bitterly of the recent updates (just this November) which completely killed his 2-3YO laptop. He had no choice but to go buy a new one.

That's one of the reasons I bought a Mac....to get rid of Windows.

@YrNemo -- no, in a word. Plus, all of the productivity suites are free with the Mac. What are they on Windows? $300? Or that $99 a year “lease” they’d gone to when I got my Mac?

I was about to buy a MacBook a number of times, but always stopped in the end from worrying that it would ask me to update constantly like it does with my Iphone....

May I ask if Windows 10 Updates have been better these days? (There was a time when it updated non-stop automatically on one of my laptops, and in the end, I just couldn't bear it any more..)

@YrNemo The Windows 10 update are better the last time I had to update the computer two days ago. Sometimes it does take a while for the updates to work properly.

I was curious about the adult material that popup, which said it was from this website. I just can't understand how that happened.
