The exit to the highway put me on a road. I’m continuing a look at favorite songs with “street,” “highway,” road,” etc. in the title. This was suggested by John Roberts, so blame him for the idea. More appearances from Captain Obvious on this part of the countdown. I suppose this first song qualifies as an obvious selection, too.
#10: Take Me Home, Country Roads - John Denver
Yep, this one’s almost obligatory.
I’ve never been much of a John Denver fan, but there are two of his song that I absolutely love. This is one of them. (“Thank God I’m a Country Boy,” if you’re wondering, is the other.)
A song about the beauty of West Virginia (my dad used to say that West Virginia is “almost heaven,” because it borders Kentucky ) that rings as true today as it did the first time I saw West Virginia or heard this song.
Take Me Home, Country Roads
Written by Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert, and John Denver
Recorded by John Denver
From Poems, Prayers & Promises, 1971
I should’ve been home yesterday:
John Denver's official audio for 'Take Me Home, Country Roads', as featured on Fallout 76. Listen to John Denver: https://JohnDenver.lnk.to/listenYD Subscrib...

No, I get the blame. You just said, “Hey, what are your favorite songs with road in the title?” You had no idea I’d pick this one.....

@FourWalls Yeah, but I planted the seed and this is an obvious tune though it would never make my list lol! I have created a traveling musical monster!

@JohnRoberts — rest easy. I was like this a long time before our paths crossed.
Just be glad “Me and You and a Dog Named Boo” isn’t going to make an appearance.

@FourWalls Not weird at all. I'm not a country fan; so there are a lot that I don't know.

My favorite Denver song along with Rocky Mountain High, although I'm not from Colorado Funny the songwriters had never been to West Virginia but you'd never know from this terrific tune

I loved John Denver. My husband is not a fan though. Still listen to his music, but not as often.

Nice love me some John Denver. You should do a whole countdown of him. Always neat in my book.

I certainly know this song. The most astonishing rendition of it was in Mae Hong Song on New Year's Eve and a group in a restaurant were singing it in English. Astonishing only because it was such an unexpected hearing. It was my first trip abroad and I just didn't expect to hear this in that sort of location.

I love this song and the voice that sings it. One of my favorites.
