conflicted about this chinese clock

this is a picture of a chinese fortune wheel clock. we have two of them because our late father was into feng shui. which is funny because, as far as we know, it is actually our mother who has some chinese blood. we don't really look at it because the face is dark and overdecorated. we like to check the time on the plain black and white clock in the living room and in the kitchen. i finally took them down today because the batteries have long been dead. now i'm wondering if i could sell them, instead of them lying around and gathering dust. or maybe give them to relatives who are interested in them. by the way, all the feng shui websites i went to said to make sure all clocks are working properly. because it is believed that a dead or broken clock is like making time stop or stand still so you end up stuck. do you know anyone who follows feng shui? how did you dispose of your parent's stuff?

I follow Feng shui, I started to be interested when we bought this house. I bought several books and the compass (luopan) and I liked to read about how to arrange the house (and the garden) to let the energy flow.

@hereandthere Yes we were renting in Monte Carlo, you must be multi millionaire to buy there. No it is not because this is our first house, but because I saw a documentary about the Feng Shui and I thought it was interesting and some principles make sense.

I don't know official Feng Shui - just things that I read or heard. I have friends who have practiced some of it in their homes/apartments - but I don't know if they are still actually following it after all these years. My parents are good about disposing their own things - they are not into "things" luckily. However my mother in law is. My mother in law's house was sold last year - my sister in law had most of her things dumped - not kidding - hired people to take big dumpster loads to haul away and the rest donated .

@hereandthere Well, we did go over to help with the whole thing . . . my husband just wanted to preserve all of his late father's artwork, as well as his mother's. My mother in law said take what we wanted - she was being moved to a very nice but tiny senior living place - but my sister in law wanted to buy her all new stuff (which is not a good thing for her mind/memories, but that's another story). But there is only so much even we could take or save for her. All the rest was furniture (old/antique/big/filthy), porcelains and crystals and silverware that no one wanted, books, etc etc etc builds up in a house for over 50 years. I helped to donate a lot of it to worthy causes, but still, there was A LOT. There was not much time to take care of it all - it was literally easier for someone to just haul it all away. I am certain it was sad for mother in law to see her "things"(including heirlooms that no one wanted) be treated like trash.

@much2say if she will be moving to a senior facility alone and with all new stuff, no links/reminders of her home or family, it might take a while for her to feel settled. it would be nice if there was a service that could do your garage sale for you, even at rock-bottom prices, just to make sure usable stuff don't go to waste.

she didn't even tell your husband in case there are things he wants to keep that are useful or for your kids?

I grew up with my father and mother not believing in anything that has no scientific basis. That's why i don't believe in feng shui. All i know is that now that i am oldet i like my clocks to have numbers

@hereandthere What i meant is the watch should have numbers not sticks to be pointed at by the long and short hand of the watch.

really? i thought it would be the younger generation who don't follow traditions and superstitions anymore. what's important to me are that the face is white and that it has hands. i don't like digital watches.

I would feel weird by just looking at it now. I hope it's not like that bagwa from that horror fenshui movie by Kris Aquino.

Stuck in time huh? Well the good part of that is you would not age, or gain weight. I think I would be okay with that part.

I learned a bit about feng shui on a vacation in China. I think that’s a very pretty and unusual clock and should be worth a lot. I still have some of my parents’ belongings and split much with my brother.

All our parents' stuff including their clothes are in their house still. their clothes are still in their closet in the master's bedroom. My mom's china are still where they are and so are my father's books.

I don't follow it. I think you should try to get batteries for it and try to sell it. It's a pretty clock. I had to get a new kitchen clock about a year ago. About a week ago my clock slowed down and I had to change the battery of it. It's working now.

I only know a little about it but there are many who follow it. I would be asking relatives if they'd like it and if not, I'd sell it. But that's just my opinion.
