I have experienced it many times. When I travel I often visit countries where I don't speak the local language. In Vietnam many people didn't speak English and we didn't speak Vietnamese. We went to a restaurant and we wanted to order to food, but they didn't understand what we meant. We had to use sign language.
When I was living/working in Estonia I didn't speak Estonian when I arrived. My coworkers spoke English, but many of our clients didn't speak or understand English. It was hard in the beginning and I always had to ask my coworkers to translate for me. After two months I was able to understand a conversation in Estonian. People also understood what I said, but I made many grammar mistakes.

You have quite a story there, the good thing is you are still learning.
The mistakes we make while trying to communicate in a foreign language are the ones that make us eager to learn more.

Very true but some other places, people don't know English, so in one way or another you will still experience the language barrier
