Why do we get angry?

Have you ever been severely angry? One time, in the Life of our Lord Jesus, He did get angry. This was when He reprimanded the vendors and the money changers for turning His Father's House into a marketplace. In this story, we are literally being commanded to keep holy the House of the Lord. Metaphorically, we are being told that our Lord Jesus' human Body will be persecuted and be put to death. That is why our Lord got angry, we failed to respect God's commandment, and inadvertently, we disrespect also our Lord's persona. Our Lord got angry because an injustice was committed. That is why we also get angry when injustice is done to our person.

Everybody wants to rule the world. Isn't anger no more than a Control issue? Isn't it only when one can not control what is happening or what others choose to do that anger shows it's ugly head? If one gives up the control of others, doesn't that leave the door open to work at solving the real problems? A person has two halves, the reason half and the feeling half. When one has allowed the feeling half to lead in the form of anger, the reason half is no where to be found. Finally, holy books are written by mankind. They reflect mankind. God is above the petty things mankind holds so dear. God never has wrath. God is never angry. God simply solves the problem since that is the only thing that really matters. God will Teach His children. Since there is no time limit on learning, there is really nothing to get angry about.

@eileenleyva Capital sin??? You have allowed religion to corrupt your thinking. They teach you to value the petty things such as Blaming, Judging, Condemning, Punishing. They use intimidation, coercion, and control. This is not God. What do you really know about God? Religion is mankind's attempt to understand God. Is the only thing you know about God coming through them? They do not Understand God at all. So if the religions are wrong, where does one Discover God? You can learn more about someone through their Actions. Books can lie, however Actions will not. In this time-based causal universe, God's actions can be seen. These actions can not be altered by mankind. When you understand God's actions, you will understand God and what God is doing with this world and the people. There is no sin. There are only choices. God is teaching His children to understand and choose the best choices. All this is being done through our free choices. Religion has convinced you this world is a mess, right? In reality, this world is a Masterpiece! Just like all the physics of this world add up, so does the people factor. The people factor is much more complicated simply because it carries so many more variables. It will all add up, unlike those holy books. Hope this helps. I know this is a much harder road than having beliefs served up on a plate. On the other hand, reality is better than stories.

@bird123 What do you call the summary execution of civilians in Syria? Is that a choice. Does God condone with such choices?

Anger is actually a capital sin. Our human nature makes us prone to this failing. But we could rise above it, through self- control. The heart and the mind are connected to each other and the same blood flows. That means we can manage our anger thru reason. Will power resides in the mind, thus we can always will what the heart feels. As for the Holy Scriptures, our God is truly the Author of our Salvation History. Man simply wrote the stories as these happened. Our God was displeased with the disobedience of Eve and Adam, thus, our journey here on earth. Man was given free will, ergo, we have freedom to choose right or wrong. Anger is on the path to the wrong.

Hi Eileen. We’re human and sometimes we can’t control our emotions. We get mad because we were betrayed or hurt. Or sometimes expectations weren’t met. And as you mentioned, injustices and unfairness.

Betrayal is the most grievous of sins. I also do not take kindly to traitors. Human nature actually allows us to succumb to this anger. Yet, we must let our being humane to come into terms with "what is," correct what is wrong, to the best of our abilities. Reality check: this situation needs help.

@eileenleyva sadly, not everybody can control their emotions. People allow their emotions to get in the way that’s why being humane is usually out of the picture. My father always says, don’t allow yourself to wallow in your emotions or it will get the best of you. I think that really needs help because you let your feelings get the best of you that you tend to be logical and reasonable.

We all get angry. We just have to know how to express that anger and not carry it to an extreme.

Yes, it's a human failing. In Theology, it is called wrath, and belongs to the severity of sinfulness as pride, envy, gluttony, greed, lust, sloth. In all, as you suggested with anger, restraint must be exercised.

Anger is just like any other emotions of Human beings and there is nothing wrong with it. Yes how we manage and hoe we are able to channelize it matters.

You are correct in suggesting anger must be managed because anger cannot be allowed to consume us. A person can get angry because someone provoked him into it, but when the rage subsides, it is good to learn composure.

@arunima25 Anger could only end in sadness or in very bad situation. It's a no way out condition, if someone allows anger to consume him/her.

@eileenleyva It takes a lot of conscious living to come to that stage. But sadly anger consumes us.
