An Unexpected Accident

Last September , my hubby's auntie had an unexpected accident. She accidentally missed a step while entering the receiving room after coming from the porch when suddenly it was a blackout. She was hospitalized for more than a week in Legazpi city, but was refused to be operated for her fracture on the left upper leg because a valve in her heart is blocked. We sought a second opinion through our daughter from the specialist in the hospital where she is a resident doctor. She was immediately transferred there in Manila. After laboratories and x-rays were done, she had the operation. She's he's back home after some few days and she's having a physical therapist guide her in learning how to walk again in the first 2 weeks. However, the PT after Nov 1 , didn't come back anymore. Auntie though can walk with the aid of a walker and with little pain. But when she isn't practicing how to walk, she just want to stay in her hospital bed. We know it will take quite sometime before she can walk on her own again if she is like that. She just have to be determined to always practice walking. I pray she can walk again , normally.

So sorry to know about this accident. Prayers for her! Therapies and practice take a bit for the patient to come back to their normal walking. Hope she stays motivated and determined.

Yes, i keep praying for her. I always talk to her when I came from work. I told her she should make her room bright by opening the light not using a dim lampshade.

Oh so sorry to hear that she had a bad fall and broke her leg. I think she needs to push herself little by little to get used to walking again. Staying in bed all the time won't help her regain her strength anytime soon. Just don't push too hard though as it can complicate things with her. How old is your aunt right now?

@SIMPLYD Oh she is old indeed and healing may be much slower for her age now. I think keeping that happy disposition might help a lot in healing process. I think that is what is needed at this point in time a positive disposition and a lot of patience.

The therapy takes time and it depends on the progress of the patient. If she will not avail of the therapy then she might recover completely.

Do you think she still can recover even without rhe PT coming for her and rely only.on the caregiver in practicing her to walk?

So sorry for your aunt and it will definitely take time again to walk like before. Age also matters in it as it also takes time more then young people so need to practice regularly to walk fine like before. Before 4 years my brother also met an accident and operation in his left leg and it's a very tough time for him as spending such a long time in bed. I wish your aunt fine soon and can walk like before.

@birjudanak Was your brother's leg inserted with metal. Auntie's leg was. So it's for almost a half year before he recovered walking.

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear of your auntie’s accident. Thank goodness for your daughter, the doctor, to know how to seek the best place for her. We all known that the best thing your auntie can do to get well again is to practice walking more and more each day. I hope she gets motivated to do that.

Thank you. Her caregiver helps her in being able to walk around in the lobby of her room. She would always ask the caregiver to help her walk and at least that is an indication that she wants to be able to walk again

Yes, i keep telling her that she should be seated in a chair , not always in her hospital bed. At night, she would just be awake in her bed with the room dark as she only wants her lampshade that is so much shady so the room is dark.
