I miss my hacienda

I call it My Hacienda, that's the vacant lot beside our property which was bought by a new owner this year. That's where I planted vegetables and some crops. There were also loose chickens. It's like having a small farm. But now it is already fenced informally and my plants were already removed except the 2 mango trees that I planted. That's progress that we cannot resist.

We were surprised to know that it has a new owner. We didn't know that it was for sale.

@Alexandoy Being the adjacent neighbor, you have the right of first refusal I think unless you decline because you find the selling price too high. I am not sure of the law (if there is) on that but that is what I recall about selling properties just like an adjacent lot to our cooperative's main office building. The owner wanted to sell it and we were interest but he priced it at 30M which was quite unreasonable for us the property being only about 400 sq.m. and, besides, it was not a roadside lot. There was still another lot in front of it. However, a rich Chinese family having a big store at the other end of the block took it. Several years later, they also bought the roadside lot.

@sunrisefan there might be a law about the first offer but it cannot be enforced when the sale to the new owner was already consummated. And maybe we cannot afford it anyway since we heard it was for 10 million pesos, just for 500 sqm. That's a crazy price.

It has a caretaker who has the connection to the owner. She didn't tell me that the owner is selling.

What a shame about your plants. Could you round up the chickens and put them on your property?

I hope you have enough land to restart your garden @Alexandoy

@rebelann no more space in our home because it is a small lot of 280 sqm. I had been giving away some of the seedlings and saplings in my nursery.

The chickens were all given away although there's a few that still remain in the vicinity because they are wild, couldn't catch them. I am really sad about the plants.

So, I can call you then "Senyor Haciendero" :) You look like one though because it seems there's some Spanish blood running in your veins aside from your Hispanic surname :)

My friends call me Haciendero but it's over now. Thanks for that moniker anyway.

Hacienda means a big piece of land and the landed families call their estate hacienda. It's just a fancy name for that lot.

My brother-in-law had an empty block next to him which was handy as a 'car park' when he had visitors but it now has a house on it. As you say, that's progress.

It's hard to resist progress. We just have to learn how to adapt to the changes. In fairness to the situation, the planned building of a structure is put on hold. It should have started 2 months ago.

That is highly improbable because the new owner lives just in our street corner. The are the opposite of generous.

Just like the vacant lot in my neighbor that is a restaurant now.

Oh no, not a restaurant because that would mean noise and people.

Yeah, I was saddened when I learned of the sale but I cannot do anything.
