Absolutely. We don't have dogs anymore; but they always let you know when you fall down on the job.

I have no dog or cat so I'll have to answer this a bit differently.
I do petsit for friends from time to time, or sometimes I just spend the night with them.
Two of her dogs will put their faces in your face when you start to stir and they want to go outside. Otherwise, they usually won't make any fuss and just wait until you said "Outside?" and then go crazy.

@DocAndersen Ah, and when I say 'start to stir" I should clarify that as "wake up."
Since I pet sit for them, they see me as "another human that feeds me and gives me pets" so they ask me when they need to go out.

Freckles was never vocal about it, but she’d start nudging my leg. The more I ignored her the harder the nudges became.
Goldie, on the other hand, would growl in a way that almost sounded like she was saying “I want out.”

We have 2 cats. Our senior rescue is our sweet girl Rusty! She is our cuddle bug who LOVES turkey lunch meat and when making sandwiches if we do not give her a piece or we just do not have any she gives us the dirtiest look then walks away with a swish of her tail
Starr is our special boy! He is a scardy cat BUT when it is just his Daddy and I in the evenings he will climb on the couch and pat at his Daddies arm or leg with his paw for attention and pettings, and if Daddy either ignors him OR isnt petting right he will gently bite then quickly get up and run away.

My cat is very vocal when she wants to eat and I have to tell her she still has time but she continues being vocal.

I love to talk to my cat. She listens when she wants to and I believe she is listening to me. I love to talk to her.
