Today I went to a Christmas party. My mother-in-law lives next to a nursing home and the party was arranged by the nursing home. We had traditional Danish Christmas food: Fish, meatballs and red cabbage, apple porridge with pork and risalamande for dessert. Risalamande consists of rice porridge, whipped cream and almonds. There is one whole almond in the bowl and the person who finds it receives a small gift.
The people who live next to the nursing home were able to invite their relatives and there were many visitors. I enjoyed talking to other visitors and the people who lived next to the nursing home. A musician played during the meal. Some people danced afterwards, but we had to drive back to our home.

That sounds like a lovely event. I am sure the residents of the nursing home enjoy it as well.
The Risalamande sounds really delicious, and I like the idea of receiving a small gift if you find the almond.

Yes, I think they enjoyed it a lot. There was a lot of food, the employees kept serving new dishes, and at the end we almost couldn't eat anymore. I can't eat risalamande anymore, because I have to avoid almonds, but I used to like it a lot. Everyone wants to find the whole almond, but sometimes someone eats it by mistake and no one gets the gift.

@Porcospino I wondered if someone has accidentally ate it. I don't think it would be too hard to do. They do this each year, you said?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, it takes place every year. We call Christmas parties "Christmas lunch" I am not sure why, because the parties usually take place at night and not at lunch time.
When no one finds the almond people keep eating risalamande because they are still hoping to find the almond, but if the bowl is empty and no one has found it we know that someone ate it by mistake.

I haven't heard of that before. We don't celebrate Three Kings Day anymore. In the past the Danes used a special candle on that day. It looked like a fork (3 candles in one)

@LadyDuck That is a nice tradition. Our risalamande always contains one whole almond, but sometimes someone eats it by mistake and no one gets the present.

@Porcospino It is a popular celebration in France. Back in times they places a bean in the center to be found, now it's mainly a little nice ceramic object that the one who finds it keeps.

It was very nice. There was a great atmosphere in the room and people were having a good time. There were no empty seats so I am glad that my mother-in-law bought tickets in advance.
