Low Emotional Quotient

The gifts were given, and my daughter came home with three shopping bags of opened gifts. There's, a towel, a towelette, a mug, a tumbler, an alarm clock, a bag, a pouch, a purse, etcetera.
'Why are your gifts already open?," I asked, "It's not Christmas yet."
"I have a low emotional quotient," my daughter responded, "Couldn't wait for Christmas."
I think my daughter takes after me. I also believe I have low emotional quotient. I don't delay opening my gifts, too.
What about you?

One reason, according to my sister, for she just had an early Christmas party in LA with her high school mates, is that, when you have no need of the gift given you, you re-wrap it and give it away. That's what her best friend did with the gift she received.
Since you got your wife a convert to early openers of Christmas gifts, you must also convince her to re-wrap the ones you don't need, but others need. That way, those gifts will not be wasted.
Gosh, low EQ means success has not been achieved. Oh my. I am not unsuccessful, am I?

@eileenleyva Oh yeah gift recycling we've been doing that for a long time. Before we go out to Christmas Shop we see if there are gifts we receive that can be given to others as a gift instead.

@rsa101 Gift recycling? The terminology must have come from plastic recycling.
That's good. The waste could be limited. And we get to give gifts to help others.

I'm the opposite, I tend to follow what is traditional not just when it comes to gift giving. I'm usually the last in the house to open my gifts or I also wait for the traditional Christmas Eve to do it.

You have a high EQ then. You have self control. It's the stuff successful people are made of.
Congratulations, pal.

I would always wait for Christmas Eve as in the Latvian tradition to open my presents. It was hard to wait but I waited. Now it is easy because I have not had anyone give me a present in ages.

Pretty much the same here, I also waited for Christmas in opening my gifts.
That changed with the busyness of schedules, and Christmas became a four month festivity in my country, instead of just an eight-day season that begins on Christmas day.
I don't receive gifts, too. I tell people I don't need anything and they are just making the companies creating useless stuff rich. If ever they persist, I tell them to buy white shirts for the missionaries, or donate a hundred dollars to the mission.

I always wait for Christmas except for one gift that we open on Christmas Eve. We don't have any gifts this year; so it won't matter!

Meaning to ask what that exception is but I could be prying.
Gifts need not be material things. At times, someone needs just a chat at a coffee shop that makes a whole lot of difference for this person.

@eileenleyva We used to just choose one gift to open on Christmas Eve. We never knew what was in it.

I wouldn't take any EQ test. I would fail. And I would end up miserable.
