My First Air Flight

First air flight, whether local or International, has always got a special place in ones memory lane. If it is international it is doubly so. My first airflight was incidentally my first international flight and it was way back in 1978 and it was from Mumbai to Lagos Via Nairobi in Kenya. I was to take a job in Nigeria and would have remained there for minimum of 18 months. Although most international flights are scheduled late night, this flight was scheduled for departure at 10 A.M. and it was by Air India. Route being less busy a smaller carrier Boeing 707 was used. I was very nervous the sound of engines at the take off made me more so to add to that both the ears were blocked. At last when the ascendance stopped and sound became normal I was relieved a bit. It was all normal later on when people started moving in the passage and air hostesses came with eatables. A bit of nervousness came again when the flight was descending at Nairobi airport. The things became normal then after take off from Nairobi again. When everything was going well and food was served before the flight was to land at Lagos, the plane came across bad weather. Announcement came from the Captain that we have met with a bad weather, fasten your seat belts and don't panic. Turbulence became more and more intense began to rock and roll the food on the table splashed all over in the aisle. Prayers became audible and louder. To our good fortune everything settled down in few minutes which looked ages. Shortly afterwards we landed safely at Lagos airport.

@msdivkar It is always nice to remember if it is a good memory one's first plane right. Mine was to New York and I went to the World's Fair. It was very exciting because it was my first plane ride and I got to go to the World's Fair. That was exciting.

That's interesting. My first flight was a short one from England to Ireland when I was about 20 and I loved it.

It looks like a pretty long haul flight from India to Lagos in Africa. This reminds me of my first flight. It was from Manila to London with stopvover in Karachi and Germany. I was glad to have survived it.

Thank you Alex. You also seem to have a very long first flight and interesting too. Why don't you give the details of your flight, Why you say 'glad to have survived'.

You always remember the first flight. You had an interesting first flight. Mine wasn't international, but it was cross country to the east coast. I was on my way to boot camp in the Navy.
