The day that the temperature changed drastically

United States
December 8, 2019 3:41pm CST
It was a Friday in January of 1943 when the temperatures changes drastically. At one moment it was -4 degrees farenheit, and only two minutes passed before it was 45 degrees farenheit. The sudden change of temperature caused windows to crack and it also instantly froze over car windows. Spearfish, South Dakota residents were just starting their day when this happened at 7:30. To this day, there has not been such a drastic change in temperatures in such a short tme. A couple of decades earlier Spearfish experienced another strange occurrence. In January of 1921 the temperature rose to 79 degrees farenheit, the hottest temperature the State of South Dakota has seen for the winter season. What's the coldest it's been in winter where you live? What about the hottest in winter?

I didn't read the full article, but I think it's down to air pressure?

@amitkokiladitya Yes, and think of all of those windows that were damaged. This was in the 40's, so I wonder how many people actually had cars. Especially as it was during the war.

@TiarasOceanView Yes, I am, thank you. We've had a few colder nights, but mostly have been in the 40's here. Last year about this time, I believe it was in the 20's.

That's not so abnormal for summer. I think most places reach 100 degrees atleast once per summer season.

Oh I see. I don't look at the temperatures very often either to be honest. I just go outside and decide whether I need a coat or not.

I am pondering what would be the possible cause of the sudden change of temperature. Why is sudden? Climate change do you think is responsible for that? Or the global warming? The weather agency would explain that.

I am not sure, but I think it is possible that it had to do with global warming.

Yes, I think it must have confused people. Though I wonder how many were aware of the change at first? They would have learned about it after, but I think many would have been in homes or in offices, and not notice.

I live in NC, so yeah we've experienced warm temps like that before in Winter. We don't see many negative temps here, but we did have some temps in the single digits a few years ago.
