I am the potato candy I make

The picture you see above (and if you don't see it, hit the refresh button) is not the finished product. This is before I've slathered the peanut butter onto the dough, rolled it up and before I've sliced it up and placed it in on a tray to put in the fridge. I've talked about this before, and even shared the recipe I use. It is very tasty, but it also has a lot of sugar in it. This is part of my contribution to cookie day. A few on here have asked me to take a picture. I'm sorry it's not the finished product, but by the time it was finished I was ready to concentrate on cleaning up. Do you make a special type of candy for the holidays?

I typically will just make sugar cookies to decorate with the kids, but since they're practically grown now we haven't done it in quite a while. I think the last batch of cookiesI made were chocolate chip cookies. My favorite type of dessert for the holidays has got to be the peanut butter balls. I think they're called buckeyes, but I'm not 100% sure on that. But I love anything that has chocolate and peanut butter in it.

Yep, they are called buckeyes and / or PB balls. I've always called them buckeyes, but mostly because I learned of them for the first time from a Northern friend. I think the south calls them PB balls mostly. I never did the sugar cookie thing when I was a kid.

@moffittjc I have seen them at dessert places as "peanut butter balls" and as "buckeyes", I guess it just depends on the Northern influence.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah, I don't hear them called buckeyes much down here in Florida, so it must be a northern thing. I've always just known them as peanut butter balls.

I used to make native snacks like the yam jam and the cassava cake for giveaways but I have no more time for that now.

What is yam jam? Just jam made out of sweet potatoes?

@Alexandoy Oh that sounds interesting. It's not overly sweet?

@ScribbledAdNauseum it is a kind of dessert made from yam which is a violet taro that is cooked in coconut milk.

Your candy sounds good I have never had it before. My favorite is peanut butter balls or buckeyes as some know them by.

Ah yes, Buckeyes I love those. I think the first time I had a buckeye is with a friend of mine years ago.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My mom use to make them quite a bit now she don’t. She is making the Chex muddy buddies mix this year I love that stuff.

@Tina30219 Oh yes I love that chex mix stuff too... Is it hard to make those buckeyes?

it is very sweet. It's good though. I hate making it because of the clean up. My lower back also starts hurting when I am standing up and messing with it for awhile.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes it seems a bit of a process and lots of sugar
• United States

@TiarasOceanView I try to add as little as possible, but I have to say I probably added more than 1 lb of sugar to this. If I were a better baker, I'd figure out how to get the dough the right consistency without using as much sugar.

@GrannyGee I am not much of a baker at all, but I can cook alright. I leave the baking to my friends and family usually.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Skip used to be the one who baked wonderful banana nut bread. I have become the one who is baking it now. I love baking and I don't even like to cook, ha! The bread smells so heavenly in the house when baking ... and just seeing the loaves make me happy.

I think the microwave peanut butter fudge I made last year will be a tradition. My mom used to make potato candy when I was a little girl..not quite sure I ever made it as an adult, maybe once.

It's an easy, but tedious process making potato candy. I like the microwave fudges, I've done those before as well. PB Fudge is so good.

That sounds delicious. I think that I am best known for my home made peanut brittle. I do not like it, it is far too sweet for my taste, but I make it for everyone else. I am also known for my chocolate walnut fudge. I do like that, but again, its awfully sweet so I have to keep my distance. The recipe is from my best friend from high school.

Yes, I love the sweet stuff but I try to eat as little of it as possible. Chocolate Walnut Fudge sounds yummy.

I do not buy candy often either, but I like candy from the UK and so do not often get it as I can not always afford to get it delivered.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I used to eat a lot of candy but when I stopped eating so much and started to lose my weight I saw I do not really need all that candy around. I do not miss it. I can look at food and the picture of the candy on the side and not want it. It took me a long time to get to that point. I am used to not eating in between meals now.

This year I want to make chocolate covered pretzel rods.

I have seen those, and had them. I like the ones that also have the festive sprinkles, of course they don't really add any flavor.

@Spontaneo I think that is up to you. You could also do a drizzle of a different type of chocolate on top. Like, dip them in milk chocolate or dark chocolate, and do a drizzle of white chocolate once the other chocolate hardens.
